CHAPTER 8: THE VOICE FROM THE PAST

CHAPTER 8: THE VOICE FROM THE PAST

For several seconds after the call ended, nobody moved.
Victor Hale stood in the center of the hidden vault, staring at his phone as if it had become something impossible.
The screen was dark.
The call history was empty.
But he could still hear the voice.
The voice he had spent seven years trying to forget.
The voice he dreamed about every night.
The voice he thought he would never hear again.
Amelia.
Lily slowly stepped closer.
“Mr. Hale…”
Victor did not answer.
His mind was racing.
A thousand thoughts collided at once.
Was it real?
Was someone pretending to be her?
Was this another trick?
Another lie?
Another person trying to control him?
Daniel looked nervous.
“Victor.”
Victor finally looked up.
His expression was cold.
“Who else knew that number?”
Daniel hesitated.
“What number?”
“The private number Amelia used.”
The room became silent.
Because Daniel’s hesitation told Victor everything.
Victor stepped forward.
“You knew.”
Daniel looked away.
“I knew there was a possibility.”
Victor’s anger exploded.
“A possibility?”
“My wife called me after seven years, and you say it was a possibility?”
Daniel lowered his voice.
“I didn’t know she would contact you tonight.”
Victor stared at him.
“Then tell me what you do know.”
Daniel took a deep breath.
“I know Amelia survived the accident.”
The words hit everyone like a shockwave.
Lily covered her mouth.
Adrian immediately looked at Daniel.
“You knew she was alive?”
Daniel nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
Victor felt betrayed beyond words.
“You let me believe my wife was dead?”
Daniel looked at him.
“I thought she was.”
Victor frowned.
“What?”
Daniel explained.
“The night of the accident, I found evidence that someone removed Amelia from the scene.”
“I searched for her.”
“But whoever took her covered every trace.”
Victor’s hands shook.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Daniel looked guilty.
“Because Amelia contacted me later.”
“And she asked me not to.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
“She asked you to hide this from me?”
Daniel nodded.
“She said if you knew she survived, the person hunting her would come after you and Ethan.”
Victor looked toward Adrian.
Everyone in the room understood.
Amelia had been hiding.
Not because she wanted to leave.
Because she was protecting them.
Victor looked at Ethan.
The boy was sitting quietly beside Lily.
He looked confused.
“Daddy…”
Victor immediately softened.
“Yes, buddy?”
“Is Mommy really alive?”
The question broke him.
Victor walked over.
He knelt beside his son.
“I don’t know yet.”
“But I’m going to find out.”
Ethan looked at him.
“Can she come home?”
Victor struggled to answer.
Because for seven years, he had imagined hearing those words.
But he never believed they would become possible.
“I hope so.”
That night, the Hale Mansion changed forever.
The search was no longer about a murder.
It was about finding a missing woman.
A mother.
A wife.
A person who had sacrificed everything.
Victor ordered everyone into the main conference room.
No more secrets.
No more hidden conversations.
Everyone needed to know the truth.
Marcus, the security chief, entered first.
Then Daniel.
Adrian.
Lily.
Victor stood at the head of the table.
For the first time, the powerful businessman looked less like a billionaire.
And more like a man fighting for his family.
“Someone took Amelia seven years ago.”
Everyone listened.
“She was not killed.”
“She was hidden.”
Marcus looked shocked.
“By who?”
Victor looked at the evidence spread across the table.
“That is what we are going to find out.”
Adrian placed the old photograph of Amelia and Evelyn on the table.
“There is one person who can answer that.”
Everyone looked at him.
“Evelyn Hale.”
Marcus frowned.
“The missing woman?”
Adrian nodded.
“My mother.”
Victor looked at the photograph.
“Where do we find her?”
Before Adrian could answer, the mansion alarm suddenly activated.
The sound echoed through every hallway.
Everyone stood.
Marcus immediately checked the security monitors.
His face changed.
“Someone entered the property.”
Victor looked at him.
“Who?”
Marcus zoomed in on the camera.
A single figure stood outside the front gates.
A woman.
Wearing a long dark coat.
Holding something in her hand.
Victor walked toward the screen.
He stopped.
Because even through the blurry camera image…
He recognized her.
Lily looked at him.
“Who is it?”
Victor could barely speak.
“It’s impossible.”
Adrian stepped closer.
His face turned pale.
Because he recognized her too.
The woman outside the gates was holding an old photograph.
A photograph of the Hale family.
Then the security speaker suddenly activated.
A voice filled the mansion.
“Victor.”
Everyone froze.
The voice was older.
Tired.
But familiar.
“Open the gate.”
Victor walked toward the entrance.
His heart was pounding.
The woman continued.
“You deserve to know the truth.”
A pause.
“But before I tell you…”
“You need to understand something.”
Victor stopped.
“What?”
The woman answered.
“Amelia did not disappear because someone wanted her dead.”
The mansion became silent.
“She disappeared because she discovered who was trying to destroy the Hale family.”
Victor looked at Adrian.
Then at Ethan.
The woman’s final words echoed through the hall.
“And the person responsible…”
“Is standing inside your mansion right now.”
Everyone turned.
Suspicion spread across the room.
Victor’s eyes moved from person to person.
Daniel.
Adrian.
Marcus.
Lily.
Someone among them was hiding something.
The gate slowly opened.
The mysterious woman walked toward the mansion.
And as she stepped into the light…
Victor finally saw her face.
His entire world stopped.
Because the woman standing before him was the person he thought he lost forever.
“Amelia…”
She looked at him with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Victor.”
“I should have come home sooner.”
Then she looked toward Ethan.
And whispered:
“My baby.”
Ethan froze.
Then slowly walked forward.
Because after seven years…
A mother and son were finally standing face to face again.
But none of them knew the truth waiting behind Amelia’s return.
May you like
Because the person who wanted her hidden…
Was already preparing their next move.
