CHAPTER 6: THE VAULT BENEATH HALE MANSION

CHAPTER 6: THE VAULT BENEATH HALE MANSION
The hidden passage beneath Hale Mansion had not been opened in years.
The moment the stone wall moved aside, a wave of cold air rushed through the hallway.
It carried the smell of old paper, dust, and forgotten memories.

Victor stood at the entrance, staring into the darkness.
For most people, discovering a hidden room beneath their home would have been shocking.
For Victor Hale, it was another confirmation that his entire life had been surrounded by secrets.
He turned toward Adrian.
“How long have you known about this?”
Adrian looked into the passage.
“Since before Amelia died.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
“And you never told me?”
Adrian remained silent.
That silence angered Victor more than any answer could have.
“You knew my wife was hiding something.”
“Yes.”
“You knew someone was threatening my family.”
“Yes.”
“And you stayed away for seven years.”
Adrian looked at him.
“Because Amelia asked me to.”
Victor froze.
“What?”
Adrian reached into his coat and pulled out a small envelope.
Inside was another note.
This one was written by Amelia.
Victor immediately recognized her handwriting.
“She told me that if I returned too soon, everyone would know she had found the truth.”
Victor took the note.
The message was short.
But powerful.
“Adrian, if Victor finds out you are alive before the right moment, they will destroy him too.”
Victor read it again.
And again.
Because one thing became clear.
Amelia was not keeping secrets from him.
She was protecting him.
Lily watched Victor’s face change.
For the first time that night, his anger turned into sadness.
“She knew.”
Adrian nodded.
“She knew someone close to you was dangerous.”
Victor looked down.
“She knew, and she carried it alone.”
No one answered.
Because there was nothing anyone could say.
After a moment, Victor stepped into the hidden passage.
“Let’s finish what she started.”
The group moved deeper underground.
The walls were made of old stone.
Unlike the luxurious mansion above, this place felt ancient.
Like it existed before the Hale family became powerful.
At the end of the tunnel was a large steel door.
There was no handle.
Only a small fingerprint scanner.
Victor frowned.
“How do we open this?”
Adrian looked at him.
“Amelia designed it.”
Victor understood.
“She wanted me to open it.”
Adrian nodded.
Victor placed his hand on the scanner.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then a soft light appeared.
A voice echoed from the hidden speakers.
“Identity confirmed.”
Victor froze.
It was Amelia’s voice.
An old recording.
“My love…”
Victor closed his eyes.
“If you are hearing this, then you finally found the truth I tried to protect.”
The steel door slowly unlocked.
The recording continued.
“I know you will be angry.”
“You will wonder why I didn’t tell you everything.”
“But I need you to understand something.”
“I wasn’t hiding the truth from you.”
“I was hiding the danger from you.”
The door opened completely.
Inside was a massive vault.
Everyone stopped.
The room was filled with boxes.
Documents.
Hard drives.
Photographs.
Old family records.
It was not a place for money.
It was a place for evidence.
Victor walked inside slowly.
Lily followed behind.
“What was Amelia collecting?”
Adrian answered quietly.
“Proof.”
Victor opened the nearest box.
Inside were copies of financial transactions.
He read the names.
His expression changed.
Because one name appeared repeatedly.
Serena Vale.
Payments.
Transfers.
Private accounts.
Victor’s hands tightened.
“She was stealing from the company.”
Adrian shook his head.
“Not exactly.”
Victor looked at him.
“What do you mean?”
Adrian pointed toward another folder.
“Look closer.”
Victor opened it.
His face immediately changed.
The documents showed something far worse.
Serena was not taking money.
She was moving ownership.
Piece by piece.
Creating a plan to control Hale Industries.
But there was one problem.
Ethan’s inheritance protected everything.
Unless Ethan was removed.
Victor felt sick.
“She wanted my son gone.”
Adrian nodded.
“Yes.”
Lily looked at the documents.
“She planned all of this?”
Adrian looked toward the vault.
“No.”
Victor turned.
“What do you mean?”
Adrian picked up a photograph from a box.
The picture showed Serena.
Daniel.
And another person.
A person Victor recognized.
His own father.
The three of them were standing together twenty years earlier.
Victor stared at the photograph.
“That’s impossible.”
Adrian looked serious.
“It isn’t.”
Victor grabbed the picture.
“My father died before Serena ever worked for this family.”
Adrian nodded.
“Exactly.”
Victor looked confused.
“Then why was she meeting him?”
No one answered.
Because the photograph created more questions than answers.
Suddenly, a sound echoed from the tunnel.
Footsteps.
Everyone turned.
Victor immediately moved in front of Ethan.
“Who’s there?”
No response.
The footsteps became louder.
Slow.
Calm.
Someone was not trying to hide.
Someone wanted them to know they were coming.
Then a figure appeared at the entrance.
Victor’s heart stopped.
Because the person standing there was someone he never expected to see.
Daniel Cross.
The family attorney.
The man who helped manage everything.
The man who had disappeared after Serena escaped.
Victor’s voice became cold.
“Daniel.”
The lawyer looked around the vault.
Then smiled.
“You found it.”
Victor stepped forward.
“How long have you known about this room?”
Daniel said nothing.
Victor’s anger grew.
“You helped Serena.”
Daniel looked down.
Then he slowly removed his glasses.
“I helped protect this family.”
Victor laughed bitterly.
“By lying to me?”
Daniel looked at Ethan.
“No.”
“By protecting him from the truth.”
Everyone became silent.
Victor stared.
“What does that mean?”
Daniel took a deep breath.
“Because the person who started this entire plan…”
He paused.
“And the person who wanted Amelia dead…”
Victor waited.
Daniel looked directly at him.
“It wasn’t Serena.”
The room went completely silent.
“It was someone from the Hale family.”
Victor felt the ground disappear beneath him.
Someone from his own bloodline.
Someone closer than he imagined.
Daniel stepped forward.
“And you need to know something else, Victor.”
“Your father left behind one more secret.”
Victor tightened his fists.
“What secret?”
Daniel’s face became serious.
“The real heir to the Hale empire…”
“He isn’t Ethan.”
Everyone froze.
Victor stared at him.
“Then who is?”
Daniel looked toward Adrian.
And whispered:
“The person your father tried to erase from history.”
The lights inside the vault suddenly flickered.
And somewhere above them…
A door slammed shut.
May you like
They were no longer searching for the truth.
The truth had found them.
