CHAPTER 5: THE RETURN OF THE LOST HALE HEIR

The room remained silent after Adrian Hale revealed his identity.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

It felt as if the entire mansion was holding its breath.

Victor stared at the man standing in front of him.

The stranger who claimed to be his half-brother.

The man Amelia had known.

“Who?”

Adrian looked toward the hallway.

Then he spoke quietly.

“Not here.”

Victor immediately became suspicious.

“You come into my home after seven years.”

“You refuse to answer questions.”

“And you expect me to trust you?”

Then back at Victor.

“No.”

“I expect you to trust Amelia.”

That stopped Victor.

Because Amelia was the one person he still trusted completely.

Adrian slowly placed the envelope on the desk.

“She left this for you.”

Victor stared at it.

“Why didn’t she give it to me herself?”

Adrian’s expression became painful.

“Because she tried.”

“But someone stopped her.”

Victor’s hands tightened.

“Who?”

Adrian looked at him.

“Your own security team.”

Everyone froze.

Victor immediately turned toward Marcus, the head of security.

Marcus looked confused.

“Mr. Hale, I swear I had nothing to do with that.”

Victor studied him.

He wanted to believe Marcus.

But after tonight, trust had become dangerous.

Adrian continued.

“The night Amelia died, she discovered someone was changing Ethan’s inheritance documents.”

“She found evidence.”

“And she planned to expose them.”

Victor looked at the envelope.

“What evidence?”

Adrian hesitated.

“The original trust agreement.”

Lily stepped closer.

“The real one?”

Adrian nodded.

“The one where Ethan’s inheritance could only be controlled by Ethan himself when he became an adult.”

Victor understood immediately.

If Ethan disappeared before that happened…

Someone else would gain control.

Someone like Serena.

Someone who wanted the Hale fortune.

But Adrian shook his head.

“That’s only part of it.”

Victor looked at him.

“What else?”

Adrian’s voice became darker.

“The trust was never the main target.”

Victor frowned.

“Then what was?”

Adrian looked around the mansion.

“The Hale family company.”

Victor froze.

Because that was impossible.

His company was built through decades of work.

The ownership structure was protected.

No one could simply take it.

Adrian continued.

“Someone discovered an old clause hidden in your father’s original business documents.”

“A clause that allows another Hale heir to challenge ownership.”

Victor stared.

“Another heir.”

Adrian nodded.

“Yes.”

“Me.”

The room became silent again.

Victor looked at Adrian.

“So this was about bringing you back?”

“No.”

Adrian’s voice became serious.

“This was about making sure neither of us could stop them.”

A sudden sound came from outside.

A car engine.

Everyone turned toward the window.

A black vehicle was leaving the mansion gates.

Victor immediately recognized it.

“Serena.”

He rushed toward the window.

But the car disappeared into the storm.

Victor grabbed his phone.

“Find her.”

Marcus nodded.

“Yes, sir.”

But Adrian stopped him.

“Don’t.”

Victor turned.

“What?”

Adrian looked serious.

“If Serena wanted to run, she would have left the city.”

“She didn’t.”

“She wants you to follow her.”

Victor narrowed his eyes.

“Why?”

Adrian looked toward the golden key sitting on the table.

“Because she knows what’s behind the second door.”

Victor stared.

“Second door?”

Adrian nodded.

“Amelia didn’t hide everything in one room.”

Lily looked confused.

“There’s another room?”

Adrian walked toward the old mansion map hanging on the wall.

He pointed to a forgotten section of the estate.

“The east wing.”

Victor looked at the map.

The east wing had been closed for years.

Everyone believed it was abandoned.

But Adrian pointed to a hidden area behind the walls.

“There is a room beneath the mansion.”

Victor felt a chill.

“A basement?”

Adrian shook his head.

“No.”

“A vault.”

Lily looked shocked.

“What’s inside?”

Adrian’s expression became serious.

“Proof.”

“Proof of who betrayed Amelia.”

Victor looked at Ethan.

Then at the mansion around him.

His entire life had been built on things he thought were true.

He picked up the golden key.

“Take me there.”

Adrian looked surprised.

“You’re willing to open it?”

Victor looked at him coldly.

“I spent seven years believing a lie.”

“I’m not spending another night living in the dark.”

The group moved toward the east wing.

The hallway was covered in dust.

Old portraits watched them as they walked.

At the end of the corridor stood a stone wall.

No door.

No handle.

Nothing.

Adrian stepped forward.

“Amelia told me something before she died.”

Victor looked at him.

“What?”

Adrian touched the wall.

“She said the Hale family’s greatest secrets were never protected by locks.”

“They were protected by people.”

Victor looked at the wall.

Then the golden key in his hand.

A small symbol appeared beneath the dust.

The same symbol carved on the key.

Victor placed the key against it.

The stone wall slowly moved.

A hidden passage appeared.

Cold air rushed out.

Ethan held onto Lily’s hand.

Victor stared into the darkness.
