CHAPTER 12: THE GHOST OF RICHARD HALE

CHAPTER 12: THE GHOST OF RICHARD HALE

The name on the screen changed everything.

RICHARD HALE.

Victor stared at the message.

His father.

The man who had been buried seven years ago.

The man whose portrait hung proudly in the mansion.

The man Victor had spent his entire life trying to impress.

The man he believed was the foundation of the Hale family.

Now his name was appearing as a threat.

A warning.

A declaration of war.

“No.”

Victor slowly shook his head.

“This isn’t possible.”

Elizabeth watched him carefully.

“I knew you would say that.”

Victor looked at her.

“Because you expected me not to believe you?”

“No.”

“Because I spent years trying not to believe it myself.”

The mansion remained silent.

Even the storm outside seemed to disappear.

Everyone was trying to understand the impossible.

How could a dead man still control their lives?

Lily looked at Amelia.

“Is Richard really alive?”

Amelia took a deep breath.

“I don’t know.”

Victor looked at her immediately.

“You don’t know?”

Amelia looked hurt.

“Victor, when I discovered the truth, I was trying to find answers too.”

“But before I could expose everything…”

She stopped.

Victor finished the sentence.

“You disappeared.”

Amelia looked down.

“Yes.”

Victor walked away.

The pain in his face was obvious.

He wanted to be happy that she was alive.

He wanted to hold her.

But seven years of abandonment and confusion could not disappear overnight.

Too much had happened.

Too many lies had been revealed.

Adrian looked at the message.

“This means someone has access to the old Hale network.”

Victor turned.

“What does that mean?”

Adrian pointed at the phone.

“The family security system.”

“The company accounts.”

“The private archives.”

“All of them were created by Richard.”

Victor understood.

His father had built everything.

Every secret passage.

Every hidden document.

Every emergency plan.

If someone had access to those systems…

They had access to the entire Hale empire.

Daniel quietly spoke.

“There is one place that can answer this.”

Everyone looked at him.

Victor’s expression hardened.

“Another hidden room?”

Daniel shook his head.

“No.”

“The original Hale family archive.”

Victor frowned.

“I thought the archive was destroyed.”

Daniel looked away.

“That is what Richard wanted everyone to believe.”

Victor walked closer.

“Where is it?”

Daniel hesitated.

Then answered.

“Under the old family chapel.”

The words surprised everyone.

The Hale family chapel had been abandoned for years.

Nobody went there.

Not since Richard’s funeral.

Victor looked at Amelia.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Amelia looked at him sadly.

“Because I didn’t know who I could trust.”

Those words hurt.

But Victor knew she was right.

Trust had become the most dangerous thing in their world.

Victor turned toward Marcus.

“Prepare the cars.”

Marcus nodded.

“Yes, sir.”

Before they could leave, Ethan suddenly spoke.

“Daddy.”

Victor immediately looked at him.

“Yes?”

The boy held something in his hand.

A small piece of paper.

Victor frowned.

“Where did you get that?”

Ethan pointed toward the hallway.

“The woman who came earlier.”

Everyone froze.

Elizabeth looked confused.

“What woman?”

Ethan looked at her.

“The one who was watching us.”

Victor immediately moved closer.

“When?”

Ethan pointed upstairs.

“Before Mommy came back.”

The entire room became tense.

Victor looked at Marcus.

“Check the cameras.”

Marcus rushed to the security system.

Seconds later, his face changed.

“Mr. Hale…”

“What?”

“There is footage.”

Everyone gathered around the monitor.

The screen showed the second floor hallway.

A woman stood outside Ethan’s bedroom.

Watching.

Waiting.

Victor stared.

Because the woman was familiar.

Too familiar.

It was Serena.

But she looked different.

Older.

Tired.

Terrified.

She was not acting like someone escaping.

She was acting like someone running from something.

Then the footage showed something else.

Serena placed a paper under Ethan’s door.

The same paper Ethan was holding.

Victor took it.

He opened it.

Inside was a message.

Only one sentence.

“I was never the mastermind.”

Everyone became silent.

Then another line appeared.

“I tried to stop him.”

Victor looked at Amelia.

“Who?”

Amelia stared at the paper.

Her expression changed.

Because she knew.

Victor noticed.

“Amelia.”

She slowly whispered:

“Richard.”

The room became silent again.

Victor shook his head.

“No.”

“Serena hated my father.”

Amelia looked at him.

“No.”

“She feared him.”

That changed everything.

Victor looked at Daniel.

“You knew?”

Daniel nodded slowly.

“Richard was not the kind of man people betrayed.”

“He was the kind of man people obeyed.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“So Serena was working under him?”

Daniel nodded.

“Everyone was.”

Victor looked at the mansion around him.

His home.

His family.

His empire.

All of it had been controlled by a man who was supposed to be dead.

Suddenly, every screen in the mansion turned on.

The lights dimmed.

A video appeared.

An old recording.

Richard Hale.

Victor’s father.

The room froze.

The older man looked directly into the camera.

“My son.”

Victor stopped breathing.

The recording continued.

“If you are seeing this, then you finally discovered the truth.”

Richard smiled slightly.

“I knew you would find the hidden archive.”

Victor clenched his fists.

“You’re dead.”

Richard’s recorded voice continued.

“That is what everyone believes.”

The room became colder.

“But death is only useful when people think you are gone.”

Lily stepped back.

Ethan held onto Victor.

Richard continued.

“Victor, you always believed you were building my legacy.”

“But you never understood.”

“The Hale legacy was never yours.”

Victor stared at the screen.

“Then whose was it?”

Richard smiled.

“The one person you never knew existed.”

The video cut to black.

A final message appeared.

COME TO THE CHAPEL ALONE.

Victor stared at the words.

Everyone immediately reacted.

“No.”

Amelia stepped forward.

“You are not going alone.”

Victor looked at her.

For the first time, he saw fear in her eyes.

But he also saw something else.

Determination.

Because whatever waited at the old chapel…

Was the final piece of the truth.

Victor looked toward the dark hallway.

Seven years of lies had led him here.

Now he was going to meet the man who started everything.

The man who controlled the Hale family from the shadows.

May you like

His own father.

Richard Hale.
