CHAPTER 4: THE STRANGER WHO KNEW AMELIA’S SECRET

CHAPTER 4: THE STRANGER WHO KNEW AMELIA’S SECRET

The rain continued pounding against the windows of Hale Mansion.

The storm outside matched the chaos growing inside Victor’s mind.

For seven years, he had lived with the pain of losing Amelia.

For seven years, he believed her death was a heartbreaking accident.

But now every piece of evidence pointed toward something darker.

Someone had planned it.

Someone had hidden the truth.

And someone inside his own home had helped cover it up.

Victor stood in the main hall, staring at the metal box he had found behind Amelia’s old painting.

The words carved into the surface still bothered him.

“The day we met.”

It was not a random clue.

It was something only Amelia and Victor would understand.

Their first meeting.

Their first conversation.

The beginning of everything.

Lily watched him carefully.

“Are you going to open it?”

Victor looked down at the box.

“Yes.”

“But not here.”

Lily frowned.

“Why?”

Victor looked around the mansion.

“Because whoever hid this knew exactly where to put it.”

“And whoever searched this room knew exactly what they were looking for.”

He paused.

“They may still be watching.”

Lily felt a chill.

The Hale Mansion had always seemed safe.

But now it felt like a trap.

Victor picked up the box and turned toward Ethan.

“Buddy, we’re going upstairs.”

Ethan held his father’s hand.

“Are we leaving?”

Victor looked at him.

“I don’t know yet.”

The answer scared Ethan.

Because his father always had answers.

Victor Hale was the man who solved impossible business problems.

The man who never showed fear.

But tonight, even Victor looked uncertain.

As they reached the second floor, the mansion security team suddenly appeared.

The head of security, Marcus Reed, approached quickly.

“Mr. Hale.”

Victor stopped.

“What happened?”

Marcus looked uncomfortable.

“We checked every camera recording.”

“And?”

“There is a problem.”

Victor’s expression hardened.

“What problem?”

Marcus handed him a tablet.

“The cameras were disabled for exactly eight minutes.”

Victor looked at the screen.

Eight minutes.

The exact amount of time when Serena disappeared.

“Who disabled them?”

Marcus hesitated.

“That’s the problem.”

“Only three people have access to the security system.”

Victor already knew the answer.

“Me.”

“Daniel.”

“And Serena.”

The silence after that statement was heavy.

Lily looked away.

Everything kept returning to the same names.

Serena.

Daniel.

And now Adrian Hale.

Victor entered the old study and placed the metal box on the desk.

He entered the combination.

The date of the day he met Amelia.

The lock clicked.

Inside was not money.

Not jewelry.

Not valuable documents.

It was a small voice recorder.

Victor stared at it.

“A recording?”

Lily stepped closer.

“From Amelia?”

Victor pressed the button.

At first, there was only static.

Then a familiar voice filled the room.

Amelia.

Victor froze.

Hearing her voice again after seven years felt impossible.

“Victor…”

The recording continued.

“If you are listening to this, then I am probably gone.”

Victor closed his eyes.

Pain crossed his face.

Lily quietly stepped back.

She knew this moment belonged to him.

Amelia’s voice continued.

“I wish I could have told you everything myself.”

“But I was afraid.”

Victor opened his eyes.

Afraid?

Amelia had never been afraid.

She was the strongest person he knew.

The recording continued.

“Someone in our family has been hiding the truth about Ethan’s inheritance.”

“The documents you believe are complete are not the real documents.”

Victor immediately looked at Lily.

The fake trust.

The missing documents.

Everything connected.

Amelia continued.

“There is another heir.”

Victor’s heart stopped.

Another heir.

“His name is Adrian.”

The room became silent.

Victor slowly sat down.

Amelia knew.

She knew about Adrian Hale.

She knew about the hidden family member.

But why had she never told him?

The recording continued.

“Adrian was not supposed to inherit anything.”

“He disappeared because he discovered what they were planning.”

Victor leaned closer.

“Who?”

But the recording did not answer.

Instead, Amelia said something else.

“The person behind this is someone you would never suspect.”

A sudden noise interrupted the recording.

Amelia’s breathing changed.

She sounded scared.

Then came her final words.

“Victor, if something happens to me…”

“Do not trust anyone who says they are protecting Ethan.”

The recording ended.

No goodbye.

No explanation.

Only silence.

Victor stared at the device.

Because those final words destroyed everything he believed.

The people who claimed to protect Ethan…

Were the ones he needed to fear.

Suddenly, the study door opened.

Everyone turned.

A man stood there.

Tall.

Dark hair.

Wearing a black coat covered with rain.

Victor immediately moved in front of Ethan.

“Who are you?”

The stranger looked at him.

His eyes were strangely familiar.

Then he spoke.

“My name is Adrian Hale.”

The room went completely still.

Lily gasped.

Victor stared.

Impossible.

The missing man.

The hidden heir.

The person connected to Amelia’s final secret.

Adrian stepped inside.

“I know you have questions.”

Victor’s voice was cold.

“You disappeared seven years ago.”

Adrian looked toward the photograph of Amelia.

“Yes.”

“Because someone tried to make sure I never came back.”

Victor stepped closer.

“Who?”

Adrian looked directly at him.

“The same person who killed Amelia.”

Ethan hid behind Victor.

Lily looked terrified.

Victor clenched his fists.

“You expect me to believe you?”

Adrian reached into his coat.

He pulled out an old envelope.

Then he placed it on the desk.

“This is the letter Amelia wrote before she died.”

Victor looked at the envelope.

His name was written on it.

But it was not the same handwriting as the first letter.

Victor stared at Adrian.

“What is this?”

Adrian’s expression became serious.

“The truth she never had the chance to give you.”

The storm outside grew louder.

And for the first time in seven years…

Victor realized Amelia’s final secret was not buried with her.

Someone had been protecting it.

May you like

Someone had been waiting.

And now that secret had finally returned to Hale Mansion.
