CHAPTER 3: THE NAME HIDDEN IN THE OLD PHOTOGRAPH

CHAPTER 3: THE NAME HIDDEN IN THE OLD PHOTOGRAPH

The Hale Mansion had never felt so unfamiliar to Victor.

The same walls that once represented success and family pride now felt like they were hiding a thousand secrets.

Every painting.

Every hallway.

Every locked door.

Everything seemed different.

Victor stood inside Amelia’s hidden room, staring at the documents spread across the desk.

Seven years of lies had collapsed in a single night.

The woman he trusted.

The lawyer who protected his family.

The people who promised to help him raise Ethan.

They were all connected.

But Victor still did not know how deep the betrayal went.

Lily watched him carefully.

She had worked in the Hale Mansion for three years.

She had seen Victor angry before.

She had seen him frustrated.

She had seen him destroy business deals with a single phone call.

But she had never seen him broken.

Not like this.

“Mr. Hale…”

Victor did not respond.

“Are you okay?”

For a long moment, he remained silent.

Then he placed the old letter back on the desk.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“I’m not.”

Lily looked at Ethan.

The little boy was sitting on the edge of the old chair, holding his mother’s photograph.

He did not understand the adult world around him.

He only understood that something was wrong.

“Daddy…”

Victor immediately turned.

“Yes, buddy?”

“Did Mommy know Serena was bad?”

The question hit him harder than anything else.

Victor walked over and kneeled in front of his son.

“I don’t know.”

“But I promise I’m going to find out.”

Ethan looked down.

“I miss her.”

Victor pulled him into his arms.

“I miss her too.”

For the first time that night, the powerful billionaire was not a businessman.

He was just a father trying to protect his child.

Suddenly, Lily noticed something strange.

A small piece of paper was sticking out from behind Amelia’s photograph.

“Mr. Hale.”

Victor looked up.

“What?”

She pointed toward the frame.

“There’s something hidden there.”

Victor carefully removed the photograph from the frame.

Behind it was another picture.

But this one was different.

It was older.

Much older.

It showed Amelia standing in front of the Hale Mansion.

She was smiling.

But she was not alone.

Standing beside her was a man Victor had never seen before.

A young man wearing a dark suit.

On the back of the photograph, there was handwriting.

Victor turned it over.

His eyes immediately widened.

The message read:

“The truth began with him.”

Below the sentence was a name.

Adrian Hale.

Victor froze.

Lily noticed.

“Who is Adrian Hale?”

Victor slowly put the photograph down.

“No one.”

But his voice betrayed him.

Lily knew instantly.

That was not the truth.

Victor walked toward the window.

For years, he believed he knew everything about his family.

He believed the Hale bloodline was simple.

His father.

His grandfather.

Himself.

But Adrian Hale was a name he had never heard before.

And that was impossible.

Because every member of the Hale family was documented.

Every inheritance.

Every birth record.

Every relationship.

Everything.

Except Adrian.

A hidden family member.

Victor picked up his phone.

He called his private investigator.

The call connected after one ring.

“Find everything about Adrian Hale.”

A pause followed.

“Adrian Hale?”

“Yes.”

“Are you sure that’s the name?”

Victor looked at the photograph.

“Very sure.”

He ended the call.

But before he could say anything else, a loud crash came from downstairs.

Everyone froze.

Ethan grabbed Victor’s hand.

“What was that?”

Victor immediately moved toward the door.

“Stay here.”

Lily stepped forward.

“I’m coming with you.”

Victor looked at her.

“You don’t have to.”

Lily shook her head.

“I know.”

“But Ethan trusted me.”

“And I’m not leaving him alone.”

Victor nodded.

Together, they walked down the hallway.

The mansion was silent.

Too silent.

The security guards were searching every room.

But when Victor reached the main hall, he saw something impossible.

The front door was open.

Rain poured inside.

And on the marble floor was a trail of muddy footprints.

Someone had entered the mansion.

Someone had been inside while everyone was distracted.

Victor followed the footprints slowly.

They stopped near Amelia’s old office.

The room that had been untouched since her death.

The door was slightly open.

Victor pushed it.

Inside, everything looked normal.

Until he saw the desk.

A drawer had been opened.

The documents inside were scattered everywhere.

Someone had searched the room.

Lily whispered.

“They were looking for something.”

Victor nodded.

“Yes.”

He looked around.

“They weren’t trying to scare us.”

“They were trying to find something before we did.”

Then Ethan suddenly pointed toward the wall.

“Daddy.”

Victor turned.

“What is it?”

The boy walked toward an old painting.

“There is something behind that.”

Victor removed the painting.

Behind it was a hidden compartment.

Inside was a small metal box.

The box had a combination lock.

But there was only one clue written on it.

Four words.

“The day we met.”

Victor stared at the message.

He knew exactly what it meant.

Amelia.

Their first meeting.

Their first promise.

Their first secret.

But before he could enter the code…

His phone rang.

It was his investigator.

Victor answered immediately.

“What did you find?”

The voice on the other end sounded nervous.

“Mr. Hale…”

“Yes?”

“There is something you need to know.”

Victor waited.

“Adrian Hale wasn’t just a member of your family.”

A pause.

“He was your father’s first son.”

Victor’s eyes widened.

Impossible.

His father had never mentioned another child.

The investigator continued.

“And there’s more.”

Victor tightened his grip on the phone.

“What?”

The answer came quietly.

“Adrian Hale disappeared seven years ago.”

Victor looked toward Amelia’s hidden room.

Seven years.

The same year Amelia died.

The same year everything changed.

Then the investigator said the words that made Victor’s blood run cold.

“Mr. Hale…”

“Someone has been using Adrian Hale’s identity inside your mansion.”

Victor slowly looked around.

At Serena’s empty room.

At Daniel’s documents.

At the dark hallway.

Because suddenly he understood.

The betrayal was not just about money.

Someone had been pretending to be someone else.

And they had been waiting seven years for the perfect moment to destroy the Hale family.

Victor looked at Ethan.

Then at Lily.

And made a decision.

No more secrets.

No more lies.

May you like

He was going to uncover the truth.

Even if the truth destroyed everything he built.
