CHAPTER 13: THE RETURN OF RICHARD HALE

CHAPTER 13: THE RETURN OF RICHARD HALE

The old family chapel stood at the edge of the Hale property.

For years, nobody had entered it.

The wooden doors were covered with dust.

The stone walls were covered with vines.

The place looked abandoned.

Forgotten.

Almost like the Hale family wanted history itself to disappear.

But tonight, Victor Hale walked toward it with one purpose.

Answers.

Behind him were Amelia, Adrian, Elizabeth, Daniel, Lily, and Marcus.

Nobody wanted Victor to go alone.

Not after everything they had discovered.

Not after the message from a man who was supposed to be dead.

Richard Hale.

Victor stopped in front of the chapel door.

He looked at the old family symbol carved into the stone.

The same symbol that appeared on the golden key.

The same symbol that had opened every hidden secret.

Amelia stood beside him.

“Victor.”

He looked at her.

“What?”

She hesitated.

“Whatever happens inside…”

“You need to know something.”

Victor waited.

“I never stopped trying to come home.”

The words affected him.

But the pain was still there.

Seven years of loneliness could not disappear with one sentence.

Victor looked away.

“I believe you.”

Amelia’s eyes filled with tears.

“But I don’t know how to forget.”

She nodded.

“I know.”

Victor opened the chapel door.

The heavy wood creaked.

Inside, everything looked exactly the same as the day Richard was buried.

The old wooden benches.

The family portraits.

The candles.

But something was different.

There was no dust.

Someone had been here recently.

Marcus noticed immediately.

“Someone has been inside.”

Victor looked around.

“How long ago?”

Marcus examined the floor.

“Within the last few hours.”

Everyone became alert.

They were not searching for someone who was gone.

They were searching for someone who was waiting.

At the front of the chapel was a large painting of Richard Hale.

Victor stared at it.

His father looked exactly as he remembered.

Confident.

Powerful.

Untouchable.

But now Victor saw something else.

A man who controlled people through fear.

A man who buried secrets instead of solving them.

Daniel walked toward the painting.

“The archive is behind this.”

Victor looked at him.

“You knew?”

Daniel nodded.

“Richard showed me once.”

Victor’s expression hardened.

“You knew about all of this.”

Daniel lowered his head.

“Yes.”

“And I regret it.”

Victor moved the painting aside.

Behind it was a hidden metal door.

A keypad appeared.

Victor looked at the numbers.

“What is the code?”

Daniel answered quietly.

“Richard’s greatest mistake.”

Victor frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel looked at the door.

“Because he believed his greatest mistake was showing mercy.”

Victor entered several numbers.

Nothing happened.

Then Amelia stepped forward.

“He wouldn’t use something about himself.”

Victor looked at her.

“What would he use?”

Amelia looked at the keypad.

“He would use something he thought represented power.”

Victor thought for a moment.

Then entered a date.

The day Hale Industries became a billion-dollar company.

The keypad flashed.

Access granted.

The door opened.

Inside was a small archive room.

But there was one thing nobody expected.

A chair.

A desk.

And a person sitting there.

Everyone froze.

The man slowly turned around.

Older.

Gray hair.

But unmistakable.

Victor stopped breathing.

“Dad…”

Richard Hale looked at his son.

A small smile appeared on his face.

“Hello, Victor.”

The room exploded with shock.

Lily stepped back.

Adrian stared.

Elizabeth covered her mouth.

Daniel looked down.

Because the impossible was standing in front of them.

Richard Hale was alive.

Victor could barely speak.

“You died.”

Richard smiled.

“That was the plan.”

Victor’s eyes filled with anger.

“You let me believe you were dead.”

“Yes.”

“You let me bury you.”

“Yes.”

“You watched me suffer.”

Richard looked calm.

“Because suffering reveals the truth.”

Victor stepped forward.

“You destroyed this family.”

Richard shook his head.

“No.”

“I saved it.”

Victor laughed bitterly.

“You call this saving?”

“You erased children.”

“You manipulated marriages.”

“You destroyed Amelia’s life.”

Richard’s expression changed slightly.

“I protected the Hale legacy.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“You erased me.”

Richard looked at him.

“You were a weakness.”

Adrian’s face became cold.

“I was your son.”

Richard looked away.

“A complication.”

Those words cut deeper than anger.

Victor looked at his father with disbelief.

“How could you?”

Richard stood slowly.

“Because you never understood what it means to lead.”

“I built an empire.”

“You inherited it.”

Victor shook his head.

“No.”

“I rebuilt it.”

Richard smiled.

“Exactly.”

“You became stronger because I forced you to.”

Amelia stepped forward.

“You almost destroyed Ethan.”

Richard looked at her.

“And yet he survived.”

Victor moved instantly.

“Do not talk about my son.”

Richard looked at Ethan.

For a moment, something changed in his eyes.

But it disappeared quickly.

“The boy is important.”

Victor became furious.

“He is not an asset.”

“He is not a piece in your game.”

“He is my son.”

Richard looked at him.

“That is why you will fail.”

The room became silent.

Victor stared.

“What does that mean?”

Richard walked toward the desk.

He picked up a document.

“Because the final decision belongs to Ethan.”

Everyone froze.

Victor frowned.

“What decision?”

Richard handed him the paper.

“The Hale inheritance agreement.”

Victor read it.

Then his face changed.

Because there was one condition written at the bottom.

A condition nobody knew existed.

If all heirs return, the youngest Hale descendant must choose the rightful leader of the family.

Victor looked at Ethan.

His son was only a child.

Richard smiled.

“The future of the Hale empire is now in the hands of a boy.”

Amelia looked horrified.

“You planned this.”

Richard nodded.

“For thirty years.”

Suddenly, alarms started ringing throughout the chapel.

Marcus checked his device.

“Someone is accessing the company servers.”

Victor turned.

“Who?”

Marcus looked shocked.

“It’s Serena.”

Everyone froze.

Richard smiled.

“Of course.”

Victor looked at him.

“You knew?”

Richard walked back into the shadows.

“She was always the final piece.”

The lights went out.

Again.

And when they returned…

Richard Hale was gone.

Only one message remained on the desk.

THE FINAL HEIR WILL CHOOSE WHO FALLS.

Victor stared at the words.

Because the biggest battle had finally begun.

Not between enemies.

But between family members.

And this time…

The person holding the power was his own son.
