Chapter 4 — The Truth They Never Wanted to Hear

Chapter 4 — The Truth They Never Wanted to Hear

The ballroom remained silent after my words.

“I’m staying.”

Those two words seemed to change the entire atmosphere.

For years, Chloe and Eleanor had counted on one thing.

My silence.

They believed I would always lower my head.

They believed I would always forgive.

They believed I would always walk away quietly to avoid causing trouble.

But that version of me was gone.

My father looked at me carefully.

He knew me better than anyone.

He understood that I wasn’t staying because I wanted revenge.

I was staying because I was finally done allowing people to rewrite my story.

Chloe stared at me from across the room.

Her face was pale.

The diamond ring she had claimed was stolen was now sitting inside an evidence bag in the hands of security.

Her perfect wedding had become a public disaster.

But somehow...

She still looked angry at me.

Not Amanda.

Not herself.

Me.

“You planned this,” Chloe suddenly said.

The room reacted with confusion.

I frowned.

“What?”

She pointed at me.

“You knew this would happen.”

Everyone stared.

Chloe’s voice grew louder.

“You knew Amanda had the ring. You knew my wedding would fall apart. You wanted to embarrass me.”

For a moment, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

After everything.

After she accused me.

After her mother tore my dress.

After my husband stood there and watched.

She still believed she was the victim.

My father stepped forward.

“Enough.”

Chloe ignored him.

“No, I want answers!”

She looked at the guests.

“Think about it. She never told anyone who her family was. She suddenly has access to this hotel. Her father appears the second she’s accused.”

Her eyes narrowed.

“It’s all too convenient.”

A few guests exchanged uncertain looks.

That was Chloe’s talent.

She could create doubt even when the truth was standing right in front of her.

I looked at her calmly.

“You really believe that?”

She crossed her arms.

“Yes.”

I nodded slowly.

“That explains everything.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means you never actually knew me.”

The words hit harder than I expected.

Because they were true.

For three years, Chloe had judged me by what she saw.

My simple clothes.

My quiet personality.

The way I avoided showing off.

She assumed those things meant weakness.

She never understood that I chose a simple life because I wanted peace.

Not because I lacked anything.

“My father’s money was never a secret,” I said.

Chloe laughed bitterly.

“Oh, really?”

“Yes.”

I looked at Dominic.

“Your brother knew.”

The room shifted.

Everyone looked at my husband.

Dominic froze.

Chloe turned toward him.

“Dominic?”

He looked uncomfortable.

“Chloe…”

“No.”

Her voice became sharp.

“You knew?”

Dominic looked down.

“I knew her father owned the hotel.”

A wave of whispers filled the room.

Eleanor’s expression changed instantly.

“You knew and never told us?”

Dominic swallowed.

“Vivienne asked me not to.”

I looked away.

Because that was the one thing Dominic had respected.

At least once.

When we first married, I told him something important.

“I don’t want people loving me because of my family.”

I wanted someone to choose me.

Not my last name.

Not my father’s company.

Not my inheritance.

Just me.

Dominic had promised.

He had said:

“I fell in love with Vivienne, not the Whitmore name.”

But somewhere along the way...

He forgot.

Or maybe he never truly meant it.

My father looked at Dominic.

“You knew my daughter was being treated this way.”

Dominic’s face turned red.

“I thought things would get better.”

My father’s expression hardened.

“No.”

He looked around the room.

“You hoped she would continue accepting it.”

Nobody spoke.

Because that was exactly what happened.

Dominic wasn’t cruel like Chloe.

He wasn’t aggressive like Eleanor.

But his silence had protected them.

And sometimes...

Silence caused just as much damage.

The wedding planner approached my father carefully.

“Mr. Whitmore, there is something else.”

Everyone turned.

She held another folder.

My father took it.

“What is this?”

Her expression was nervous.

“Records from the hotel reservation system.”

She looked at Chloe.

“The wedding account was changed three days ago.”

Chloe’s face immediately changed.

“What are you talking about?”

The planner opened the folder.

“Several charges were transferred from the wedding budget.”

She looked down.

“Unauthorized charges.”

Eleanor stepped forward.

“That’s impossible.”

The planner continued.

“The payments were connected to a personal account.”

My father looked at the document.

Then slowly lifted his eyes.

“Chloe.”

The bride stopped breathing.

“What?”

My father held the paper.

“Would you like to explain why money from this wedding was used to pay for someone else’s expenses?”

The room exploded with whispers.

Chloe’s confidence disappeared completely.

Because the stolen ring was only the beginning.

And now...

May you like

A much bigger secret was about to come out.

To be continued...
