Chapter 14 — The Plan to Control My Life

Chapter 14 — The Plan to Control My Life
The ballroom felt like it had stopped existing.
There was no music.
No celebration.
No wedding.
Only the truth standing in the middle of the room.
My father’s words remained in everyone’s mind.
“A file created the day before your wedding.”
“Containing instructions for what to do if Vivienne discovered the truth.”
I looked at Dominic.

And for the first time in three years...
I didn’t recognize him.
Not because he had changed.
Because I was finally seeing him clearly.
“Dominic,” I whispered.
“Is that true?”
His face was full of panic.
“Vivienne, please listen to me.”
I shook my head.
“No.”
The word came out quietly.
But firmly.
“I listened to you for three years.”
He froze.
“I listened when you said your family would change.”
“I listened when you said things would get better.”
“I listened when you said you loved me.”
My eyes moved toward the screen.
“But now I want the truth.”
Dominic looked down.
My father nodded toward the security officer.
“Open the file.”
The officer connected the document.
The large screen displayed a folder.
The title appeared.
Emergency Marriage Strategy.
The guests immediately reacted.
“What is that?”
“Marriage strategy?”
“What kind of person creates something like this?”
I felt a cold feeling in my chest.
The officer opened the first page.
The document contained notes.
Plans.
Instructions.
A timeline.
My father began reading.
“Step one.”
He paused.
“Maintain Vivienne’s trust.”
The room became silent.
“Step two. Avoid revealing financial difficulties until a solution is secured.”
My hands went cold.
“Step three. Use family pressure to encourage Vivienne to accept separation if necessary.”
Everyone turned toward Dominic.
He looked devastated.
“I never followed that.”
My father looked at him.
“But you created it.”
Dominic had no response.
I stared at the document.
The words felt like a knife.
Not because they were surprising.
Because they explained every moment I couldn’t understand.
Every time Dominic avoided conflict.
Every time he told me to be patient.
Every time he asked me to ignore the insults.
It wasn’t just weakness.
It was strategy.
“You were waiting,” I said.
Dominic looked at me.
“What?”
“You were waiting for me to give up.”
His face changed.
“No.”
“Yes.”
I shook my head.
“You didn’t protect me because you thought eventually I would leave.”
“That way, you wouldn’t have to be the person who ended the marriage.”
Dominic’s eyes filled with tears.
“That’s not true.”
“Then what is true?”
He had no answer.
Because the truth was standing on the screen.
My father continued reading.
“There is also a section about inheritance.”
The room became tense.
Dominic immediately looked up.
“Stop.”
My father ignored him.
“According to this document, if the marriage ended after five years…”
He paused.
“Dominic would have access to certain financial benefits.”
The guests gasped.
I closed my eyes.
Because suddenly, every fear I had buried came back.
Was I just a solution?
A bridge?
A way for someone to reach a life they wanted?
Dominic stepped toward me.
“Vivienne, please.”
I looked at him.
“Did you ever love me?”
His expression broke.
“Yes.”
The answer came immediately.
“I loved you.”
“Then why?”
He struggled.
“I was scared.”
I nodded.
“That’s the problem.”
He looked confused.
“What?”
“You were always scared.”
I took a breath.
“You were scared of your family.”
“You were scared of losing money.”
“You were scared of admitting the truth.”
“And every time you were afraid…”
I looked directly into his eyes.
“I was the person who paid the price.”
Dominic looked down.
Because there was nothing he could say.
Then Chloe suddenly spoke.
“You know what the worst part is?”
Everyone turned.
She stood near the stage, no longer looking like the powerful bride from earlier.
She looked exhausted.
Broken.
But still dangerous.
“He never planned to protect you.”
Dominic glared at her.
“Don’t.”
Chloe laughed.
“You’re angry because I exposed you?”
She looked at me.
“Ask him who contacted the lawyer.”
My heart tightened.
“What?”
Chloe smiled.
“The divorce lawyer.”
The room became silent.
“Ask him who started preparing the papers.”
I looked at Dominic.
His silence answered before his words did.
My father’s expression darkened.
“Dominic.”
“Is that true?”
Dominic finally spoke.
“Yes.”
A wave of shock moved through the room.
“I contacted a lawyer.”
My chest tightened.
“When?”
He closed his eyes.
“Three months ago.”
Three months.
Not years.
Not long ago.
Three months.
After everything we had been through.
After every promise.
After every conversation where he told me we were okay.
I stepped back.
“Why?”
Dominic whispered:
“Because I thought I had ruined everything.”
I looked at him.
“You did.”
The words were painful.
But true.
Before anyone could speak, the hotel security officer suddenly received another alert.
He looked at the screen.
His expression changed.
“Mr. Whitmore.”
My father turned.
“What now?”
The officer hesitated.
“We found a hidden account connected to the marriage agreement.”
My father frowned.
“Whose account?”
The officer looked at the information.
Then slowly answered.
“Not Dominic’s.”
Everyone froze.
“Then whose?”
The officer looked directly at Chloe.
“It belongs to Eleanor Bennett.”
The ballroom went silent.
Because the person everyone thought was just helping Chloe...
May you like
May have been the person controlling everything from the beginning.
To be continued...
