Chapter 19 — The Person Who Betrayed My Mother

Chapter 19 — The Person Who Betrayed My Mother

The letter trembled in my hands.

I read the final sentence again.

And again.

“The person responsible for what happened to me is someone you trust.”

The words blurred as tears filled my eyes.

Someone I trusted.

Someone in this room.

My father stood completely still.

For the first time in my entire life, I saw uncertainty on his face.

Not the confidence of a businessman.

Not the strength of a protector.

Just a man facing a truth he had feared for years.

“Vivienne,” he said quietly.

I looked up.

“Did Mom write anything else?”

I lowered my eyes back to the letter.

There was more.

But the next paragraph was difficult to read.

The ink had faded.

My father carefully took the paper and examined it.

“She wrote this shortly before the accident.”

My heart tightened.

“Before she died?”

He nodded.

I swallowed.

“Then she knew something was going to happen.”

Nobody spoke.

The room felt heavy.

Dominic looked devastated.

“I’m sorry.”

I looked at him.

For once, I believed he meant it.

Not because everything was forgiven.

It wasn’t.

But because everyone in that room was finally seeing the damage caused by secrets.

My father continued reading.

“Your mother wrote about someone inside the company.”

He paused.

“Someone who had access to private financial information.”

My eyes moved around the room.

Eleanor.

Chloe.

Dominic.

Everyone had secrets.

But only one person had been close enough.

My father turned another page.

“There is a name mentioned.”

My heart started beating faster.

“What name?”

He looked at the paper.

Then slowly lifted his eyes.

“I don’t know if I should say it.”

“Dad.”

My voice was firm.

“I need to know.”

He nodded.

The room became silent.

“The name is…”

He stopped.

Suddenly, the ballroom doors opened.

Everyone turned.

A hotel employee rushed in.

“Mr. Whitmore.”

My father frowned.

“What happened?”

The employee looked nervous.

“We found someone trying to access the old archive room.”

My father’s expression changed.

“What?”

“The person was looking for the same documents.”

A cold feeling moved through me.

Someone else was still searching.

Someone who knew the truth was about to come out.

My father looked at security.

“Who was it?”

The employee hesitated.

Then answered:

“Mr. Bennett.”

Everyone froze.

Dominic.

My husband.

The room became silent.

I turned toward him.

“What?”

Dominic looked shocked.

“No.”

My father stared at him.

“Were you at the archive room tonight?”

Dominic immediately shook his head.

“No.”

The employee looked confused.

“I saw him.”

Dominic stepped forward.

“You’re mistaken.”

Before anyone could respond, the security officer entered with another piece of information.

“Mr. Whitmore.”

My father looked at him.

“Yes?”

“We checked the camera footage.”

The officer looked serious.

“The person entering the archive room was not Dominic.”

Everyone released a breath.

Then the officer continued.

“But they were using Dominic’s access card.”

My heart sank.

Someone had his card.

Someone had been using his identity.

My father’s eyes narrowed.

“Where is the footage?”

The officer displayed the video.

The screen showed the old archive hallway.

A figure walked toward the door.

The person was wearing dark clothing.

Their face was hidden.

But one thing was clear.

They used Dominic’s access card.

Then the person turned slightly toward the camera.

And everyone in the room froze.

Because they recognized the jewelry on their hand.

A gold bracelet.

A bracelet Eleanor wore every day.

Dominic looked at his mother.

“No…”

Eleanor immediately stepped back.

“This is impossible.”

My father stared at her.

“Is it?”

She said nothing.

The officer continued.

“The person entered the archive room twenty minutes after the wedding accusation began.”

My father looked at Eleanor.

“While everyone was distracted.”

The truth became painfully clear.

The ring accusation.

The humiliation.

The chaos.

It wasn’t just about destroying me.

It was a distraction.

A way to get into the archives.

A way to find the documents about my mother.

I looked at Eleanor.

The woman who had spent years pretending to be my family.

The woman who had smiled at me during holidays.

The woman who had hugged me while secretly planning against me.

“Why?”

My voice broke.

“Why did you do this?”

For the first time, Eleanor didn’t look angry.

She looked tired.

“I never wanted it to become this.”

I stared at her.

“But you planned it.”

She closed her eyes.

“Yes.”

The confession was quiet.

But devastating.

Dominic looked at his mother.

“You knew about my father’s debt.”

“Yes.”

“You knew about the company problems.”

“Yes.”

“You knew about the documents.”

A pause.

“Yes.”

He looked completely broken.

“Why?”

Eleanor looked at me.

“Because your mother found out the truth.”

My breathing stopped.

“What truth?”

Eleanor looked away.

And then she said the one thing nobody expected.

“Your mother didn’t die because of an accident.”

The room went silent.

My father stepped forward.

“What are you saying?”

Eleanor’s eyes filled with tears.

“I’m saying…”

She looked at me.

“The person who caused your mother’s death was not a stranger.”

A pause.

“It was someone inside the Whitmore family.”

My blood ran cold.

My father looked at her in disbelief.

“Who?”

Eleanor looked at the letter in my hand.

Then at me.

And whispered:

“Your mother knew the person before she died.”

The room went silent.

Because the final secret had finally been revealed.

But the truth was even more painful than we imagined.

The person who destroyed my mother…

May you like

Was someone I had loved my entire life.

To be continued...
