Chapter 10 — The Plan Hidden Behind the Wedding

Chapter 10 — The Plan Hidden Behind the Wedding
The ballroom felt colder than before.
Not because of the air conditioning.
Because everyone finally understood something.
The stolen diamond ring had never been the real story.
It was only a distraction.
A carefully planned moment designed to make me look guilty while something much bigger happened behind the scenes.

My father placed the documents on the table.
“The missing ring was only the beginning.”
His eyes moved toward Chloe.
“You created a scene so everyone would focus on Vivienne.”
Chloe shook her head.
“No.”
But her voice lacked confidence.
My father continued.
“While everyone was watching my daughter being humiliated, someone was moving money.”
Dominic stared at the documents.
“Money from my company?”
My father nodded.
“Yes.”
His expression hardened.
“And it was transferred through accounts connected to the Bennett family.”
The guests immediately started whispering again.
Eleanor looked furious.
“This is ridiculous.”
She stepped forward.
“You are accusing my family because your daughter is embarrassed.”
My father turned toward her.
“No.”
His voice was firm.
“I am presenting evidence.”
That stopped her.
Because evidence was something they could not insult their way around.
The hotel security officer handed my father another folder.
“This contains the transaction records.”
My father opened it.
“The first transfer happened two months ago.”
He looked at Dominic.
“Thirty thousand dollars.”
Dominic frowned.
“I didn’t authorize that.”
“The second transfer happened three weeks later.”
Another page.
“Fifty thousand.”
Dominic’s face changed.
“And the third?”
My father looked down.
“One hundred thousand.”
The room became silent.
Three transfers.
Three hidden movements of money.
And nobody had known.
Except the people behind it.
I looked at Dominic.
“Did you really know nothing?”
His expression was painful.
“I swear, Vivienne, I didn’t.”
For the first time that night, I believed him.
Not because he deserved my trust.
But because his shock looked real.
He wasn’t prepared for this either.
Chloe noticed.
She immediately changed direction.
“Dominic, don’t listen to her father.”
Everyone turned toward her.
“You’re going to let them destroy us?”
Dominic looked confused.
“Us?”
“Yes.”
Her voice became emotional.
“We’re family.”
I almost laughed.
Family.
That word had been used so many times tonight.
But family was not about sharing a last name.
It was about protecting each other.
And Chloe had spent the entire evening destroying everyone around her to protect herself.
Dominic stared at her.
“You knew about the money?”
Chloe said nothing.
That was enough.
His expression changed.
“You knew.”
She looked away.
“Dominic…”
“You knew?”
His voice became louder.
“You knew my company was losing money, and you still took from it?”
Chloe crossed her arms.
“I was trying to fix things.”
“By stealing?”
“By investing.”
The answer shocked everyone.
My father looked at her.
“Investing?”
Chloe lifted her chin.
“Yes.”
She finally stopped pretending.
“I moved the money because I knew how to make it grow.”
Nobody spoke.
“And when the wedding happened, everything would be settled.”
Dominic stared at her.
“You risked everything.”
“No.”
She looked at me.
“I risked nothing.”
Her eyes narrowed.
“Because everyone would blame Vivienne.”
The room went completely still.
Even Chloe seemed to realize she had said too much.
My father slowly turned toward her.
“Say that again.”
She immediately looked away.
But it was already too late.
Everyone heard.
Chloe had planned for me to become the target.
I was the distraction.
The person everyone would suspect.
The person nobody would defend.
Except she made one mistake.
She underestimated who I was.
My father stepped closer.
“For years, you believed my daughter was powerless because she did not show her wealth.”
He paused.
“But you never understood the difference between being quiet and being weak.”
Chloe’s face tightened.
I looked at her.
And for the first time, I saw something beyond arrogance.
I saw desperation.
Because her entire plan was collapsing.
The perfect wedding.
The perfect family image.
The perfect reputation.
All gone.
Then the security officer suddenly spoke.
“Mr. Whitmore.”
Everyone turned.
“There is one more file.”
My father looked at him.
“What is it?”
The officer hesitated.
“A recording.”
“What kind of recording?”
He looked toward Chloe.
“One that was found on the hotel system.”
The ballroom became silent.
The officer continued.
“It was recorded the night before the wedding.”
My heart started beating faster.
Because everyone already knew...
Whatever was on that recording would reveal the final piece of Chloe’s plan.
My father nodded.
“Play it.”
The screen changed.
The ballroom lights dimmed.
A video appeared.
And then...
Chloe’s voice filled the room.
“If everything goes according to plan, Vivienne will lose everything.”
A gasp moved through the crowd.
I felt Dominic go completely still beside me.
The recording continued.
Chloe laughed.
“She always thinks being kind will protect her.”
A pause.
Then another voice appeared.
Eleanor.
“We just need everyone to believe she’s the problem.”
My stomach tightened.
Because now there was no misunderstanding.
No excuse.
No way to deny it.
The people who claimed to be my family...
Had planned my humiliation.
The recording continued.
And the next sentence changed everything.
“Once Vivienne is destroyed...”
Chloe’s voice became clear.
“Dominic will have no choice but to leave her.”
The entire ballroom turned toward my husband.
And suddenly...
Everyone realized the truth.
This had never been about a diamond ring.
May you like
It had always been about destroying my marriage.
To be continued...
