Chapter 2 — The Footage That Changed Everything

Chapter 2 — The Footage That Changed Everything

The silence inside the ballroom became unbearable.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

Everyone looked toward the security cameras mounted above the entrance.

For the first time that night, Chloe’s confident expression began to crack.

“What footage?” she asked quickly.

Her voice was sharper than before.

My father turned his attention toward her.

“The security footage from this ballroom.”

Chloe forced a small laugh.

“Mr. Whitmore, I think there’s been a misunderstanding.”

A misunderstanding.

That was the word people always used when they realized their lies were about to collapse.

My father stared at her.

“No.”

His voice remained calm.

“There is no misunderstanding.”

He looked around the room.

“There is only a question of whether everyone here wants to see the truth.”

Nobody answered.

Because everyone did.

The wedding planner, who had been standing near the entrance in silence, immediately stepped forward.

“Mr. Whitmore…”

Her voice shook.

“I can access the security system.”

My father nodded.

“Do it.”

Chloe’s face turned pale.

“Wait.”

Everyone looked at her.

She quickly recovered.

“I mean... we don’t need to embarrass anyone further.”

A few guests exchanged confused looks.

Only moments earlier, she had demanded that I be searched in front of everyone.

Now she suddenly wanted privacy.

Interesting.

My father noticed it too.

“Embarrassment?”

He looked at my torn dress.

“My daughter was publicly accused of theft.”

His eyes moved to Eleanor.

“She was physically humiliated.”

Then he looked at Dominic.

“And her husband watched.”

The entire ballroom became colder.

Dominic opened his mouth.

“Mr. Whitmore, I—”

My father raised one hand.

“Not yet.”

Just two words.

But Dominic immediately stopped speaking.

That was the difference between power and arrogance.

Chloe had spent years pretending she was untouchable.

My father never needed to prove he was.

The wedding planner returned a few seconds later.

“The footage is ready.”

The giant screen behind the stage, originally prepared to display wedding photos and videos, suddenly changed.

The romantic slideshow disappeared.

A security camera view appeared.

The entire ballroom watched themselves from above.

A strange feeling passed through me.

Seeing everything from that angle made me realize how cruel the scene had truly been.

There I was.

Standing alone.

Eight months pregnant.

Surrounded by people accusing me of something I didn’t do.

Then the footage played.

Everyone watched Chloe walk toward me.

Everyone heard her say:

“Search her.”

A wave of discomfort spread through the guests.

Then came Eleanor.

The room became completely silent as the recording showed her grabbing my dress.

The sound of fabric tearing echoed through the speakers.

Several guests looked away.

Even people who had stayed silent earlier now looked ashamed.

My father’s expression did not change.

But I knew him.

The calmer he became...

The angrier he was.

The footage continued.

My purse being thrown onto the marble floor.

My belongings scattered everywhere.

My prenatal vitamins rolling across the ballroom.

A few guests lowered their heads.

Then came the moment everyone had forgotten.

The black access card.

The camera zoomed in.

The wedding planner immediately paused the footage.

“There.”

She pointed at the screen.

“That card.”

Chloe frowned.

“What about it?”

The wedding planner looked nervous.

“That is not a personal access card.”

My father glanced at her.

“Explain.”

She swallowed.

“That card belongs to the hotel’s private management system.”

A murmur moved through the crowd.

My father nodded.

“And who gave my daughter that card?”

Nobody answered.

Because they already knew.

I had not stolen anything.

I had permission to be there.

Chloe suddenly stepped forward.

“This proves nothing!”

Everyone turned toward her.

She was becoming desperate.

“She could have taken it from someone.”

My father looked at her.

“You still don’t understand.”

He walked toward the screen.

“This ballroom is part of the Whitmore Grand Hotel.”

He paused.

“My daughter has full access to every property owned by my company.”

The guests gasped.

Chloe froze.

Eleanor’s face changed.

Dominic looked at me in disbelief.

For three years, they believed I was just a quiet woman with no background.

They never asked.

They never cared.

They judged me because I never needed to announce who I was.

My father continued.

“She never mentioned her family because she wanted to be loved for who she was.”

His eyes moved toward Dominic.

“She wanted a husband who chose her.”

The words hit harder than any accusation.

Dominic looked down.

My father turned back to the screen.

“Continue the footage.”

The video resumed.

The camera showed something nobody had noticed.

While everyone surrounded me...

While everyone searched my belongings...

While everyone accused me...

Amanda, Chloe’s cousin, quietly walked toward the hallway.

With the silver purse still clutched in her hand.

The ballroom became silent.

Chloe slowly turned toward Amanda.

“Amanda?”

Amanda stopped breathing.

Her face lost all color.

My father noticed immediately.

“Security.”

Two men in suits stepped forward.

Amanda backed away.

“Wait!”

Her voice cracked.

“I can explain!”

For the first time that night...

The accusation was no longer against me.

The entire room turned toward the person who had been hiding in plain sight.

And Chloe realized something terrifying.

May you like

Her perfect wedding had just become the place where her own lie would be exposed.

To be continued...
