Chapter 6: The Hidden Witness

Chapter 6: The Hidden Witness
The message on Dr. Harper’s phone changed everything.
"You should have stayed silent five years ago."
Nobody spoke.
The ballroom that had once been filled with celebration was now filled with fear.
Olivia stared at the screen.
Her mind raced.
Someone had been watching.
Someone knew exactly what was happening.
Someone knew Dr. Harper had finally decided to reveal the truth.

“Who sent that?” one of the officers asked.
Dr. Harper slowly locked his phone.
“I don’t know.”
But Olivia noticed something.
A hesitation.
A small movement in his eyes.
He did know something.
“Doctor,” she said quietly.
He looked at her.
“Please don’t lie to me.”
The old man looked broken.
“I’m not lying.”
“Then tell me why you look afraid.”
Dr. Harper looked around the room.
At the guests.
At the officers.
At Daniel.
Then at Olivia.
“Because whoever sent that message knows more than they should.”
Daniel laughed softly.
“Now you understand.”
Everyone turned toward him.
He stood between two officers, but somehow he still looked confident.
“You’re finally realizing this is bigger than me.”
Olivia looked at him coldly.
“Don’t pretend you’re innocent.”
Daniel’s smile faded.
“I never said I was.”
The answer shocked everyone.
Olivia stared.
“What?”
Daniel looked around the ballroom.
“You all think this is a simple story.”
He pointed at himself.
“The greedy fiancé.”
Then toward Emma.
“The manipulated best friend.”
Then toward Victor.
“The mysterious businessman.”
Finally, toward Dr. Harper.
“The trusted doctor with a secret.”
He shook his head.
“You’re missing the biggest piece.”
“What piece?” Olivia asked.
Daniel looked at her.
“Your father.”
The room became silent.
Olivia’s expression hardened.
“My father is dead.”
“Yes.”
Daniel nodded.
“And that’s why nobody can ask him what really happened.”
The words angered her.
“You don’t get to use my father to save yourself.”
“I’m not saving myself.”
Daniel’s voice became serious.
“I’m trying to stop you from making the same mistake he made.”
Before Olivia could respond, Victor stepped forward.
“Enough.”
Everyone looked at him.
Victor’s calm expression was gone.
“Daniel, you’ve manipulated enough people.”
Daniel smiled.
“Coming from you?”
Victor ignored him.
He looked at Olivia.
“There is someone else you need to meet.”
Olivia frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Victor reached into his coat and pulled out his phone.
He opened a video.
“I found this two days ago.”
He pressed play.
At first, there was only darkness.
Then a man appeared.
Olivia stopped breathing.
Because she knew that face.
It was her father.
Richard Bennett.
Alive.
Not physically.
But on video.
The room fell silent.
Her father looked older.
Tired.
But unmistakably him.
“Olivia,” the recording began.
Her eyes immediately filled with tears.
“If you are watching this, then something has gone wrong.”
She covered her mouth.
Hearing his voice after five years felt impossible.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t brave enough to tell you everything.”
Her father looked directly into the camera.
“Your life is in danger.”
Everyone froze.
Richard continued.
“There are people around you who will pretend to love you.”
A pause.
“Some will protect you.”
“Some will betray you.”
Olivia looked at Daniel.
Then Emma.
Then Dr. Harper.
Her father’s voice continued.
“But the most dangerous person is not the one who wants my money.”
“It is the one who knows where I hid the evidence.”
Victor paused the video.
Olivia looked at him.
“What evidence?”
Victor didn’t answer.
Daniel did.
“Because your father discovered the truth about the company.”
Olivia turned.
“Which truth?”
Daniel stared at her.
“The company wasn’t failing.”
She froze.
“What?”
“Your father made everyone believe the company was losing money.”
Victor nodded.
“That was a cover.”
Dr. Harper looked down.
“He was investigating someone.”
Olivia felt overwhelmed.
“Who?”
Nobody answered.
Then Emma spoke.
Her voice was barely a whisper.
“I know.”
Everyone turned toward her.
Emma looked terrified.
“I know who your father was investigating.”
Olivia stepped closer.
“Who?”
Emma swallowed.
“Me.”
The room froze.
Olivia stared.
“What?”
Emma shook her head quickly.
“No. Not like that.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“Your father suspected my family.”
She looked at Olivia.
“My father worked for Richard.”
A pause.
“He had access to the company accounts.”
Olivia’s mind raced.
“Your father stole from him?”
Emma nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
Daniel immediately looked surprised.
Even he hadn’t known.
Emma continued.
“Your father found proof.”
“Then why didn’t he expose him?”
Emma looked away.
“Because he was going to give my father a chance to confess.”
Olivia felt a strange sadness.
That sounded exactly like her father.
He always believed people could change.
Then Emma whispered:
“But someone else found out.”
“Who?”
Emma’s eyes moved toward Daniel.
Olivia felt her stomach drop.
“Daniel?”
Emma nodded.
“He found the evidence before your father could release it.”
Silence.
Daniel’s face changed.
For the first time...
he looked genuinely trapped.
The officers stepped closer.
But suddenly—
the lights in the ballroom went out.
A scream echoed through the darkness.
Then a loud crash.
When the emergency lights came on...
everyone froze.
Because Dr. Harper was gone.
And on the floor where he had been standing...
was a single piece of paper.
Olivia picked it up.

Only three words were written.
"Find the vault."
