Chapter 1: The Second Photograph

Chapter 1: The Second Photograph
Olivia couldn’t move.
The ballroom was still filled with noise, but to her, everything sounded distant.
The shocked whispers.
The footsteps.
The voices calling for security.
None of it reached her.
All she could see was the photograph in her trembling hands.

Daniel.
Her fiancé.
The man she had trusted for three years.
Standing inside the storage room.
And beside him...
Emma Collins.
Her maid of honor.
Her best friend.
For twelve years, Emma had been the person Olivia called when life became difficult.
She had held her hand through heartbreak.
She had celebrated every success.
She had helped choose the wedding dress.
She had even stood beside Olivia that morning, smiling as she told her:
“Today is the happiest day of your life.”
But now...
Olivia stared at the picture.
And the happiest day of her life suddenly felt like the biggest lie she had ever believed.
“Olivia...” Daniel’s voice cut through the room.
She looked up.
The man who had promised forever was no longer standing confidently beside her.
His face was pale.
His perfect smile was gone.
“Don’t listen to her,” Daniel said quickly. “This is a misunderstanding.”
A misunderstanding.
The words almost made Olivia laugh.
A dangerous liquid had been found in her wedding cake.
A photograph showed him pouring something into the frosting.
And now another photograph showed him with her closest friend.
But somehow...
it was still a misunderstanding?
Sophie stepped closer.
Her hands were still shaking.
“I didn’t want to believe it either,” she said quietly. “That’s why I took another picture.”
The ballroom became silent again.
Dr. Michael Harper looked between the photographs.
“Where exactly did you take these?”
Sophie swallowed.
“Thirty minutes before the cake ceremony. I was bringing extra champagne glasses to the storage area. I heard voices inside.”
She looked at Daniel.
“I wasn’t trying to spy. I thought maybe they were discussing a surprise.”
A painful pause.
“But then I saw him holding the bottle.”
Everyone turned toward Daniel.
He immediately raised his hands.
“You’re all making a mistake.”
Dr. Harper’s expression hardened.
“Then explain why there was a sedative in the frosting.”
Daniel opened his mouth.
No words came out.
That silence told everyone more than an answer could.
Olivia slowly turned toward Emma.
Her best friend was standing near the flower arrangements.
Crying.
But something about those tears felt wrong.
“Emma,” Olivia whispered.
The room waited.
“Tell me this isn’t true.”
Emma looked down.
Her silence was louder than any confession.
Olivia felt her chest tighten.
“Emma?”
Finally, Emma lifted her eyes.
“I can explain.”
A wave of anger moved through Olivia.
“Explain what?”
Emma took a step forward.
“That photograph isn’t what you think.”
Daniel immediately nodded.
“Yes. Exactly.”
But Sophie interrupted.
“Then why were you both hiding in the storage room?”
Nobody answered.
The question hung in the air.
Olivia looked at the two people she trusted most in the world.
The man she was supposed to marry.
The woman who was supposed to stand beside her forever.
And suddenly, a terrifying thought entered her mind.
The cake wasn’t the real plan.
The sedative wasn’t meant to kill her.
It was meant to control what happened next.
“What were you planning?” Olivia asked.
Daniel’s expression changed.
For a brief moment...
fear appeared.
Not guilt.
Fear.
And Olivia realized something much worse.
This wasn’t a random betrayal.
This had been planned.
Carefully.
For a long time.
Dr. Harper looked toward the officers.
“Don’t let either of them leave.”
The officers stepped forward.
Daniel backed away.
“This is ridiculous.”
But nobody believed him anymore.
Then suddenly—
Emma’s phone began ringing.
Everyone froze.
Emma looked at the screen.
The color drained from her face.
Olivia noticed.
“Who is it?”
Emma didn’t answer.
“Emma.”
Slowly, Emma turned the phone around.
The name on the screen was visible.
Unknown Number.
A message appeared beneath it.
One sentence.
"You failed. Finish what you started, or everyone learns the truth."
Olivia’s blood ran cold.
Because at that moment...
she understood.
Daniel and Emma were not the only people involved.
May you like
Someone else had been controlling everything from the shadows.
And they were still watching.
