Chapter 11: The Woman Who Knew Ryan Before Me

Chapter 11: The Woman Who Knew Ryan Before Me

The room went silent after Officer Miller’s words.

“They claim Ryan has done this before.”

I looked at Ryan.

For the first time, I wasn’t looking at my husband.

I was looking at a stranger.

A person I had shared my home with.

A person I trusted with my life.

A person who knew exactly how to hurt me.

My father stepped forward.

“Who made the report?”

Officer Miller glanced at her phone.

“A woman named Sarah Collins.”

Ryan’s face changed instantly.

Just hearing the name was enough.

My father noticed.

“So you know her.”

Ryan looked away.

“I knew her years ago.”

Officer Miller studied him.

“What was your relationship with her?”

Ryan didn’t answer.

That was becoming his pattern.

Silence.

Denial.

Delay.

But this time, it wasn’t going to work.

Officer Miller continued.

“Ms. Collins worked at a company where you were a manager.”

Ryan nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

“She claims you used your position to manipulate employees.”

Ryan immediately shook his head.

“That’s ridiculous.”

My father looked at him.

“You said you didn’t know her.”

Ryan froze.

A mistake.

A small one.

But enough.

Officer Miller noticed too.

“You just said you knew her.”

Ryan looked frustrated.

“I meant I knew who she was.”

“That’s not what you said.”

Ryan looked down.

For once, he didn’t have an answer.

A few minutes later, Officer Miller received another call.

She listened carefully.

Then she looked at me.

“Emily, Sarah Collins is outside.”

My stomach tightened.

“Why?”

Officer Miller hesitated.

“She wants to speak with you.”

My father immediately stepped closer.

“Is that safe?”

Officer Miller nodded.

“She came voluntarily. She says she has information that can help.”

I looked at Ryan.

His expression told me everything.

He didn’t want her here.

And that meant she mattered.

“Let her in.”

A few minutes later, the door opened.

A woman in her early thirties walked inside.

She looked nervous.

But determined.

Her eyes moved around the room.

Then they landed on Ryan.

The fear on her face was unmistakable.

“Ryan.”

He stared at her.

“Sarah.”

Nobody spoke.

Then Sarah looked at me.

“You’re Emily, right?”

I nodded.

She took a deep breath.

“I’m sorry.”

I didn’t understand.

“For what?”

She looked down.

“For not speaking sooner.”

My father watched her carefully.

“Tell us what you know.”

Sarah sat down.

Her hands were shaking.

“Ryan and I worked together five years ago.”

She looked at me.

“Back then, everyone thought he was perfect.”

That sounded familiar.

“He was charming. Helpful. Everyone trusted him.”

Ryan crossed his arms.

“Because I was a good manager.”

Sarah ignored him.

“But after a few months, things changed.”

She looked at Officer Miller.

“He started targeting women who were vulnerable.”

My chest tightened.

“How?”

Sarah swallowed.

“He learned their personal problems.”

“Family issues.”

“Past trauma.”

“Things they were embarrassed about.”

I felt a chill.

Because it was the same thing he did to me.

“He used that information to control them.”

Ryan stepped forward.

“That’s a lie.”

Sarah looked at him.

“No, Ryan.”

Her voice became stronger.

“You taught me something.”

Everyone looked at her.

She continued.

“You told me people are easier to control when they’re afraid of losing something.”

The room went silent.

My father’s expression changed.

Because now he understood.

Ryan wasn’t just abusive.

He was strategic.

Sarah continued.

“One woman reported him to human resources.”

Officer Miller asked,

“What happened?”

Sarah looked at Ryan.

“He convinced everyone she was unstable.”

My breathing stopped.

“He showed private messages she had sent him.”

“He made her look emotional.”

“He made people believe she was the problem.”

The same thing.

The exact same thing.

Ryan had done to me.

My father slowly closed his eyes.

Because the truth was becoming impossible to ignore.

“How many women?” Officer Miller asked.

Sarah looked down.

“I don’t know.”

A pause.

“Three for sure.”

The apartment became completely silent.

Ryan laughed suddenly.

A cold, bitter laugh.

“You’re all acting like I’m some monster.”

My father looked at him.

“A man who destroys people’s lives to protect himself?”

Ryan smiled.

“You don’t know the whole story.”

I felt tired hearing those words.

Because every time Ryan said them, he believed he was still in control.

Sarah looked directly at him.

“Yes, we do.”

Ryan stared at her.

And then she said something that made him lose his confidence.

“Because I still have the recordings.”

Ryan’s face changed.

“What recordings?”

Sarah looked at Officer Miller.

“The conversations where Ryan explained exactly how he manipulated people.”

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Then my father quietly said:

“Play them.”

Sarah reached into her bag.

And pulled out a small device.

May you like

A device that could finally reveal the person Ryan had spent years pretending not to be.

To be continued...
