Chapter 12 — The Factory of Forgotten Secrets

Chapter 12 — The Factory of Forgotten Secrets
The old Harrison factory stood at the edge of the city, abandoned for more than twenty years.
Once, it had been the heart of the Harrison empire.
A symbol of success.
A place where Daniel Harrison had spent most of his life building the company his father left behind.
Now, it was nothing more than a forgotten building surrounded by rusted fences and broken windows.
Emily stepped out of the car and looked at the factory.
A strange feeling moved through her.

She had spent her whole life searching for answers.
Now she was standing in the place where everything had started.
Vanessa stood beside her.
“You don’t have to do this.”
Emily looked at her.
“Yes, I do.”
Vanessa nodded.
“I know.”
Michael parked behind them and quickly walked over.
“I told you both this was a bad idea.”
Emily turned.
“You came anyway.”
Michael looked away.
“Because I knew you wouldn’t stop.”
Emily almost smiled.
Almost.
For the first time, she saw Michael not as a powerful lawyer.
Not as someone hiding information.
But as someone who had been carrying a painful secret for years.
They approached the factory entrance.
The door was locked.
Emily pulled out the key Sarah had given her.
The same key from the old mansion.
She inserted it.
The lock clicked.
The door opened.
Everyone stopped.
Michael stared.
“That key…”
Emily looked at him.
“What?”
Michael’s face changed.
“That key belonged to Daniel.”
Emily looked down at it.
“My father left it for me.”
Michael whispered:
“He never gave it to anyone else.”
Inside the factory, everything was covered in dust.
Old machines stood untouched.
Papers were scattered across desks.
The place looked frozen in time.
Like someone had walked away and never returned.
Emily followed the hallway.
Then she stopped.
On the wall was a large photograph.
A younger Daniel Harrison.
Standing beside his employees.
Smiling.
Happy.
Emily stared at him.
She had never seen that side of him.
Not the mysterious man from family stories.
Not the missing father.
Just a man who looked like he had a normal life.
Vanessa noticed her expression.
“He loved this place.”
Emily looked at her.
“You were here?”
Vanessa nodded.
“Many times.”
She looked around.
“Before everything fell apart.”
Emily continued walking.
At the end of the hallway, they found Daniel’s old office.
The door was slightly open.
Inside was a desk.
A chair.
And a locked metal box.
Emily approached it.
“How did you know this was here?”
Michael looked at the box.
“I didn’t.”
Emily touched the lock.
There was a symbol carved into it.
The same symbol from the necklace.
She inserted the key.
The box opened.
Inside were hundreds of documents.
Financial records.
Photographs.
Letters.
And one video tape.
Emily picked it up.
“What is this?”
Vanessa looked shocked.
“Daniel recorded everything.”
Michael looked nervous.
“Don’t play it here.”
Emily turned.
“Why?”
“Because if someone wanted this hidden for twenty years…”
He looked around the factory.
“They may still be watching.”
Emily stared at him.
“You mean cameras?”
Michael didn’t answer.
That was enough.
Emily searched the room.
Near the ceiling, she noticed a small red light.
A security camera.
Someone was watching.
Vanessa immediately grabbed the camera and covered it.
“Too late.”
Emily looked at her.
“What?”
Vanessa’s face became serious.
“They know we’re here.”
Seconds later, the factory lights turned on.
All of them.
The machines began to hum.
The old building suddenly came alive.
A voice echoed through the speakers.
“Emily.”
Everyone froze.
The same unknown voice from the mansion.
“You really are Daniel’s daughter.”
Emily stepped forward.
“Who are you?”
The voice laughed softly.
“You still don’t recognize me.”
A screen on the wall turned on.
A video appeared.
A man sat in a dark room.
His face was hidden.
But his voice was familiar.
Emily stared.
She had heard that voice before.
The man continued.
“Your father believed he could expose me.”
A pause.
“He was wrong.”
Michael whispered:
“No…”
Emily looked at him.
“You know who this is.”
Michael didn’t respond.
The man on the screen continued.
“Daniel made one mistake.”
Emily watched.
“He trusted the wrong people.”
The video showed several documents.
Then one photograph.
Emily’s heart stopped.
It was Daniel.
Standing beside the man on the screen.
They weren’t enemies.
They looked like friends.
The voice continued:
“Your father and I built Harrison Enterprises together.”
Emily stared at the image.
“Who are you?”
The man slowly leaned closer to the camera.
The screen finally revealed his face.
Everyone froze.
Because the man was someone Emily knew.
Someone who had been standing beside her all night.
Someone who had pretended to help her.
Someone she thought was on her side.
Emily whispered:
“No…”
Vanessa stepped back.
Michael closed his eyes.
The man smiled.
“Hello, Emily.”
A long silence.
Then he said:
“I’m the reason your father disappeared.”
Emily couldn’t breathe.
Because the man on the screen was—
Thomas Harrison.
Daniel’s brother.
The man everyone said had died decades ago.
The man who should not have been alive.
Emily stared at the screen.
“My uncle?”
Thomas smiled.
“Yes.”
The factory fell silent.
Then Thomas said the words that changed everything:
“Your father didn’t hide from me, Emily.”
A pause.
May you like
“He hid from what I was about to become.”
To be continued…
