Chapter 20: The Unwritten Horizon

Five years later, the Sierra Madre mountains looked just as breathtaking, bathed in the golden hues of an October afternoon.
The stone hacienda had come alive with color and sound. Wildflowers bloomed across the expansive gardens, and the sound of children laughing echoed off the red rock canyons.
A five-year-old boy with dark, expressive eyes and boundless energy raced across the grass, chasing a golden retriever while shouting joyfully for his father.
Sebastián stood on the wide wooden porch, watching them with a bright, genuine smile that had completely erased the hard, frozen lines of his former corporate life. He wore a simple flannel shirt, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his hands calloused from real, honest work.
Valeria stepped out onto the porch behind him, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade. She set it down on the wooden table, slipped her arms around Sebastián’s waist from behind, and rested her cheek against his back.
“Dinner is almost ready,” Valeria whispered, smiling as she watched their son trip playfully over the grass and tumble into a pile of autumn leaves.
Sebastián turned around in her arms, wrapping his hands securely around her and pulling her close against his chest. He looked down into her eyes, seeing the radiant happiness and deep, unshakeable peace that had bloomed across her face over the years.
“Let them play a little longer,” Sebastián said softly, pressing a tender kiss to her lips.
Far away in Monterrey, the high-rise towers of San Pedro still pierced the clouds, and the name Alcázar remained written in history books as a cautionary tale of a fallen empire. But here, deep in the mountains under the wide, open sky, none of that mattered.
