Chapter 7 - The Betrayal Within

Chapter 7 - The Betrayal Within

The recording stopped.

The room remained silent.

Nobody looked away.

The words from Daniel's voice continued to echo inside everyone's mind.

"The person who helped hide me..."

"Was someone you love."

The billionaire father stood motionless.

His eyes slowly moved across the room.

Michael.

The girlfriend.

The contractor.

Everyone became a possible answer.

Everyone became a possible enemy.

Daniel had trusted someone.

Someone close enough to betray him.

Someone close enough to know the family's secrets.

The father looked at Michael.

"You know who he meant."

Michael smiled slightly.

"I know many things."

The father's anger grew.

"Stop playing games."

Michael looked around the mansion.

"You still don't understand."

The father stepped forward.

"No."

His voice was cold.

"You don't understand."

"You took my brother from me."

"You destroyed my family."

"You made me bury my own child."

"And you expect me to stand here while you talk in riddles?"

Michael remained calm.

That calm made the father even angrier.

The contractor moved closer.

"I think everyone here has answered enough questions."

He looked toward Michael.

"Now we start asking our own."

Michael glanced at him.

"You have no idea what you are standing in the middle of."

The contractor didn't move.

"I know a child was hidden behind a wall."

"I know someone tried to erase him."

"That's enough."

Michael laughed quietly.

"You think this is about one child?"

The father stared.

"What else is there?"

Michael looked toward the hidden room.

"The entire house."

Nobody understood.

Then Michael walked toward the wall.

"The mansion was built with secrets before you ever bought it."

The father frowned.

"What are you talking about?"

Michael touched the old wooden frame.

"There are rooms here nobody knows about."

The contractor looked surprised.

"Impossible."

Michael smiled.

"You only saw what they wanted you to see."

The father looked around.

The beautiful mansion suddenly felt unfamiliar.

The perfect floors.

The expensive decorations.

The family portraits.

Everything felt like a carefully created illusion.

Michael turned toward the girlfriend.

"You should have left when you had the chance."

Her face changed.

"You promised me nobody would find out."

The father heard those words.

And his expression hardened.

"You knew."

The girlfriend closed her eyes.

"I didn't know it would go this far."

The father laughed bitterly.

"How far did you think it would go?"

She looked at him.

"I thought Daniel would disappear."

The contractor looked disgusted.

The father felt something inside him break.

Not anger.

Not sadness.

Something worse.

Betrayal.

"You were in my house."

"You ate at my table."

"You held my son's picture."

"And you knew he was alive."

The girlfriend started crying.

"I was scared."

The father shook his head.

"No."

"You were selfish."

Michael interrupted.

"Enough."

Everyone looked at him.

The father stepped forward.

"You don't control this anymore."

Michael smiled.

"Actually, I do."

He pulled a small remote from his pocket.

The lights in the mansion suddenly changed.

The screens throughout the house turned on.

Every television.

Every monitor.

Every security display.

All showing the same image.

Daniel.

The boy was sitting in a dark room.

Alive.

But frightened.

The father immediately moved toward the screen.

"Daniel!"

The boy looked up.

"Dad..."

The father reached toward the television.

"Where are you?"

Daniel looked around.

Then whispered:

"I don't know."

Michael stood behind them.

"Your son has always been better at surviving than you thought."

The father turned.

"What did you do?"

Michael smiled.

"I gave him a chance."

The father clenched his fists.

"You kidnapped him again."

Michael shook his head.

"No."

"Someone else did."

The room became silent.

The father looked at the screen.

Daniel was crying.

"Dad, listen."

The father leaned closer.

"What?"

The boy looked terrified.

"Don't trust anyone in this house."

Everyone froze.

The father looked around.

The message was clear.

Daniel was not warning him about Michael.

He was warning him about someone else.

Someone still inside the mansion.

Someone close.

Michael looked pleased.

"Now you understand."

The father turned sharply.

"Who?"

Michael didn't answer.

Instead, he pointed toward the security screen.

A new camera angle appeared.

The image showed the dark room where Daniel was being held.

Then another person walked into view.

A person carrying a familiar object.

The father stared.

Because he recognized it immediately.

It was the same bracelet his late wife used to wear.

A bracelet that disappeared the night Daniel vanished.

The father whispered:

"No..."

The screen zoomed closer.

The person holding the bracelet stepped into the light.

And the entire room gasped.

May you like

Because the person they thought was gone forever...

Was standing right there.
