Chapter 15 - The Last Recording

Chapter 15 - The Last Recording

The room remained silent after the contractor's confession.

Nobody knew what to say.

The billionaire father stared at the man standing in front of him.

The same man who had walked into his kitchen with a hammer.

The same man who had broken the wall.

The same man who had brought his son back.

But also the man who had carried a secret for seven years.

The father slowly spoke.

"You knew where my son was."

The contractor lowered his eyes.

"Not at first."

The father waited.

The contractor took a deep breath.

"I was only hired to renovate this house."

"I didn't know what was behind the wall."

"Not until I found the old blueprints."

The father frowned.

"Blueprints?"

The contractor nodded.

"The original construction plans showed a hidden space."

"A space that was removed from every official record."

The father looked toward the broken wall.

"Then why didn't you tell anyone?"

The contractor looked at Daniel.

"Because I heard him."

The room became quiet.

"I heard him crying."

"I heard him calling for his father."

The contractor swallowed.

"And then I heard someone coming."

The father's expression changed.

"Who?"

The contractor looked toward Richard.

"Him."

Richard's face hardened.

The contractor continued.

"I saw Richard."

"I saw Michael."

"I saw them arguing."

"I heard them say Daniel was the only person who could expose everything."

Richard stepped forward.

"You have no proof."

The contractor smiled slightly.

"Actually..."

He reached into his tool bag.

Everyone froze.

He pulled out a small memory card.

Richard's expression changed.

The father immediately noticed.

"You recognize that?"

Richard said nothing.

The contractor held it up.

"This was hidden inside the wall."

Daniel looked surprised.

"I didn't know about that one."

The contractor nodded.

"Because your mother wanted it hidden."

Claire looked at him.

"You found it?"

The contractor nodded.

"I did."

The father looked confused.

"What is on it?"

The contractor looked at Richard.

"The truth."

Richard suddenly moved.

Fast.

Desperate.

He grabbed the nearest object from the table.

But before he could reach the contractor, the father stepped forward.

"No."

The word stopped him.

For years, the father had been controlled by lies.

Manipulated by fear.

But not anymore.

Richard looked at him.

"You think you won?"

The father looked calm.

"No."

"I think my son won."

Richard laughed.

"Your son?"

"He was just a child."

The father looked at Daniel.

"Exactly."

"And a child survived everything you did."

Daniel held the camcorder tightly.

The father took the memory card from the contractor.

He inserted it into a computer.

The final recording opened.

The screen showed the mansion seven years ago.

Richard.

Michael.

The girlfriend.

All of them.

Planning.

But then the video changed.

A younger version of the father appeared.

Listening.

Watching.

Recording everything.

The father stared.

"I knew."

The stranger nodded.

"Your mind protected the memory."

The video continued.

The younger father looked directly into the camera.

"If something happens to me..."

The room became silent.

The younger version of him continued:

"Find Daniel."

The father's eyes filled with tears.

He had left a message for himself.

A message he forgot.

The recording continued.

The younger father revealed documents.

Evidence.

Names.

Payments.

Everything.

Then he said the final sentence.

"The person I trust the least is the person everyone trusts the most."

Everyone looked around.

The answer had always been there.

The girlfriend.

Michael.

Richard.

All of them.

But the biggest betrayal was the silence.

The people who knew.

The people who waited.

The people who did nothing.

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

Then police sirens echoed outside.

Thomas looked surprised.

"You called them?"

The contractor nodded.

"Before I broke the wall."

The father looked at him.

"You knew this would happen."

The contractor smiled.

"I hoped."

The front doors opened.

Authorities entered the mansion.

Richard finally lost his confidence.

Michael lowered his head.

The girlfriend began crying.

The years of lies were finally ending.

Hours later, the mansion became quiet again.

No secrets.

No hidden rooms.

No fake stories.

Only a father and his son sitting together.

Daniel looked at the broken wall.

"Are you going to fix it?"

The father looked at the damaged plaster.

Then smiled.

"No."

Daniel looked surprised.

"Why?"

The father placed his hand on his son's shoulder.

"Because sometimes people need to see what was hidden."

The boy smiled.

For the first time in seven years.

He felt safe.

The father looked at the wall.

A place that once represented pain.

A place that once separated him from his son.

Now it represented something else.

The truth.

The final recording was saved.

The secrets were exposed.

The people who tried to erase Daniel failed.

Because a child's voice was stronger than every lie.

And the wall they built to hide him...

became the wall that revealed everything.
