Chapter 8: The Matriarch's Verdict

Eleanor Thorne was a terrifying woman.

She was old money personified—impeccably dressed, completely devoid of empathy, and fiercely protective of the Thorne family legacy. When Khloe arrived at Eleanor’s Upper East Side townhouse that afternoon, the air in the parlor felt ten degrees colder than outside.

Eleanor sat by the fireplace, sipping Earl Grey tea. She didn't offer Khloe a seat.

"You have made a remarkable mess of my family's company, Khloe," Eleanor said without preamble. Her voice was like crushed velvet over broken glass. "My son's face is splashed across every tabloid in the country. Our stock is plunging."

"Marcus made the mess, Eleanor," Khloe replied evenly, remaining standing. "I simply turned on the lights so the board could see it."

Eleanor set her teacup down with a sharp clink. "You overplayed your hand. You think because you have a video of a gold-digger shoving you, you can steal the Thorne legacy? Tomorrow, Marcus’s lawyers will drag your name through the mud. You will be painted as a hysterical, hormonal woman who stole a company out of jealousy. The judge will give him the child, and you will be left with nothing."

Khloe didn’t flinch. Instead, she reached into her designer bag and pulled out a single sheet of paper, placing it gently on the antique table next to Eleanor’s tea.

Eleanor eyed it suspiciously before picking it up. As she read the document, the haughty arrogance drained from her heavily contoured face.

It was a medical report. From a private fertility clinic in Switzerland.

"When Marcus and I were struggling to conceive," Khloe said softly, "he blamed me. He told the press I was 'fragile.' But I wasn't the problem, was I, Eleanor? Marcus is sterile."

Eleanor’s hand trembled slightly, but she quickly masked it. "This proves nothing."

"It proves that Marcus has a genetic condition making it medically impossible for him to father a child," Khloe pressed on. "Which means, when I finally did get pregnant, Marcus assumed I had an affair. That's why he hated the baby. That's why he let Isabella attack me. He thought the child was a bastard."

Eleanor looked up, her eyes wide. "Is it?"

"No," Khloe said, her voice dripping with venom. "Because I didn't have an affair. I found out about Marcus's sterility six months ago. So, I bypassed him entirely. I went to the Thorne family sperm bank reserves. The deposits made by your late husband, Jonathan Thorne, before he underwent chemotherapy."

Eleanor gasped, dropping the paper.

"Yes," Khloe smiled, rubbing her belly. "I am not carrying Marcus’s child. I am carrying his half-brother. The true, direct heir to Jonathan Thorne. A child with 100% Thorne DNA, completely bypassing Marcus's claim to the trust."

Eleanor stared in absolute, stunned silence. Khloe had checkmated her son on a genetic level.

"If Marcus drags me into family court tomorrow, I will enter this into the public record," Khloe warned. "Marcus will be exposed as a sterile cuckold who lost his company and his inheritance to his own father’s unborn child. The Thorne legacy will become a global laughingstock."

Khloe leaned down, looking her mother-in-law dead in the eyes.

"Or, you can call off your son's lawyers. Force him to sign away his parental rights, and I will keep the genetics of this child a private family matter. The choice is yours, Eleanor. Save your son, or save your pride."
