Chapter 1: The Ultimate Betrayal

The silence in the hospital’s security room was heavier than lead. Glowing monitors cast a pale, blue light across the faces of the four people standing in the cramped space.
Marcus Thorne, the billionaire golden boy of New York real estate, stood with his hands tucked into the pockets of his tailored tuxedo. Beside him, Isabella Rossi clung to his bicep, her crimson gown torn at the hem, her face stained with theatrical tears. On the other side of the room stood Richard Vance, Khloe’s uncle and the hospital’s chief administrator, his jaw clenched so tight a muscle ticked violently in his cheek.
On the center monitor, the truth played out in high definition.
There was Isabella, shoving a heavily pregnant Khloe. There was the shattered champagne glass. There was the brutal, calculated strike of Isabella’s stiletto heel into Khloe’s side.
Richard crossed his arms, staring daggers at Marcus. "Well?" Richard demanded, his voice a low, dangerous rumble. "Your wife is in the emergency ward, bleeding, fighting to keep your child alive. And here is the woman who put her there. I have the police waiting in the lobby, Marcus. Give the word."
Isabella let out a fragile, trembling sob. She buried her face against Marcus’s shoulder. "Marcus, please... you know how she gets. She threatened me first. The camera doesn't capture audio. She said she was going to ruin my life!"
It was a pathetic, easily disprovable lie. Everyone in the room knew it. Khloe was gentle, soft-spoken, and heavily pregnant. She hadn't thrown a single strike.
Richard scoffed in disgust. "Save your breath, Isabella. Marcus, call the police up."
Marcus slowly turned his gaze away from the monitor. His face was an unreadable mask of cold, chiseled stone. He didn't look angry. He didn't look horrified. He simply looked annoyed.
He reached up, gently patting Isabella’s hand where it rested on his arm. Then, he looked directly at the head of security sitting at the desk.
"Wipe it," Marcus commanded.
The security chief blinked, unsure if he had heard correctly. "Sir?"
"You heard me," Marcus’s voice dropped an octave, dripping with the authority of a man who owned half the city. "Wipe the servers. Delete the backups. Scrub the cloud. If a single frame of this video leaks to the press, Thorne Industries stock plummets by morning. I will not have my family name dragged through the mud because my wife couldn't keep her balance and hit a table."
Richard lunged forward, grabbing Marcus by the lapels of his tuxedo. "Are you insane?! She tried to kill your child! Khloe is lying in a hospital bed—"
"Khloe is my wife," Marcus interrupted, violently shoving Richard’s hands away and smoothing his jacket. His eyes were completely devoid of warmth. "And Isabella is a crucial partner in the upcoming European merger. If she goes to jail for assault, the deal falls apart. I lose billions. That isn't happening. As for Khloe... she will recover. Tell her to rest. I’ll send my private physician to look after her."
Marcus turned his back on Richard, wrapping an arm around Isabella’s waist. He was choosing his mistress. He was choosing his money. He was leaving his wife to bleed.
"Oh, and Richard?" Marcus paused at the door, glancing over his shoulder. "If this footage somehow miraculously survives, I’ll ruin this hospital. I’ll buy the land out from under you and turn it into a parking garage. Do we understand each other?"
As the door clicked shut behind the billionaire and his mistress, Richard stood in the glow of the monitors. He didn't panic. He didn't yell. Instead, he pulled a small, silver flash drive from his pocket.
He had downloaded the footage ten minutes before Marcus even arrived at the security room.

Down the hall, in a sterile white room, Khloe opened her eyes. The heart monitor beeped a steady, reassuring rhythm. Her baby was alive. But as Richard walked in and explained what Marcus had done, something inside Khloe shattered. The naive, loving woman who had married Marcus Thorne died in that hospital bed.
In her place, something much more dangerous was born.
