Chapter 10: The Heir Apparent

The sterile smell of the hospital room was intensely familiar, but this time, Khloe wasn't fighting for her life in a puddle of shattered glass.
She was surrounded by the best doctors money could buy. Uncle Richard held her hand, his face pale with anxiety, while Elias stood guard outside the maternity ward doors like a corporate sentinel.
"Push, Khloe! One more big push!" the doctor encouraged.
Khloe gritted her teeth, her knuckles turning white as she squeezed Richard’s hand. She channeled every ounce of pain, every night of tears, every calculated chess move she had made over the last few months into this single moment.
With a deafening scream, the pain finally released.
A second later, the loud, healthy cry of a newborn baby echoed off the walls of the delivery room.
Khloe fell back against the pillows, gasping for air, sweat clinging to her forehead. She looked up through tears of exhaustion and pure joy as the nurses cleaned the baby and wrapped him in a soft blue blanket.
"It's a boy, Khloe," Richard whispered, tears streaming down his own face. "A beautiful, healthy boy."
The nurse gently placed the child onto Khloe’s chest. The baby stopped crying instantly, settling against her heartbeat. Khloe stared down at his tiny face, her heart swelling with a love so fierce it almost terrified her.
"Jonathan," Khloe whispered, kissing the top of his head. "Jonathan Richard Thorne."
Across the city, in a cold, concrete holding cell at the federal detention center, Marcus Thorne sat in an orange jumpsuit. His single phone call had gone unanswered. His bank accounts were seized. He stared at the blank wall, a billionaire reduced to absolute nothingness.
Back in the hospital, Elias Vance quietly slipped into the room. He held a leather-bound folder.
"I know it's not the time, Khloe," Elias said softly, smiling at the newborn. "But the papers need to be filed within the hour to activate the trust."
Khloe didn't hesitate. She took the gold pen Elias offered and signed her name on the dotted line.
It was official. The conditions of the grandfather’s will had been met. The unborn heir had arrived, safe and sound in the custody of his mother. Fifty-one percent of Thorne Industries now belonged to the tiny boy resting in Khloe's arms. And as his sole legal guardian, Khloe was now the undisputed regent of the entire empire.
"Congratulations, Madam CEO," Elias murmured, bowing his head respectfully.
Khloe looked from the signed documents to the sleeping face of her son. She had started this journey as a broken, terrified woman bleeding on a marble floor. She had been targeted by a ruthless mistress and betrayed by a cruel husband.
But as she sat in her hospital bed, worth billions, with her enemies crushed and her son safe, Khloe Thorne realized something profound.

They had tried to bury her. They didn't know she was a seed.
"Rest up, little one," Khloe whispered to baby Jonathan, her eyes drifting toward the window overlooking the glittering New York skyline. "Mommy has a city to run."
