Chapter 7: The Hidden Heir Returns

Chapter 7: The Hidden Heir Returns
The words echoed through the mansion.
“Richard had a twin brother.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
The revelation was so unexpected that even the investigators stopped working for a moment.

Nathan stared at Victoria.
“A twin brother?”
Victoria nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
Nathan’s voice became sharper.
“You knew?”
Victoria looked away.
“Yes.”
The answer was devastating.
Another secret.
Another piece of his life hidden from him.
“How long?” Nathan asked.
Victoria remained silent.
“How long did you know I had an uncle?”
Her silence lasted too long.
Nathan’s expression changed.
“You knew my entire life was built on lies.”
Victoria finally looked at him.
“I was trying to protect you.”
Nathan laughed.
The sound carried no humor.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
He shook his head.
“Protect me from what? The truth?”
Victoria stepped closer.
“You don’t understand what happened.”
“No,” Nathan replied.
“I understand exactly.”
For the first time, Nathan wasn’t speaking like the heir of the Grant family.
He was speaking like a son who had been betrayed.
Daniel quickly searched through the historical records.
“If Richard had a twin brother, there should be records.”
“There were,” Victoria said quietly.
Everyone turned toward her.
She looked tired.
Older.
Like she had been carrying a burden for decades.
“His name was Gabriel Grant.”
Amelia looked at her.
“Why was he hidden?”
Victoria looked toward the old family portrait.
“Because Gabriel was dangerous.”
Nathan frowned.
“Dangerous?”
Victoria nodded.
“Not because he was violent.”
She paused.
“Because he knew the truth.”
Daniel crossed his arms.
“What truth?”
Victoria didn’t answer immediately.
Then she said:
“The Grant empire was never supposed to belong to one person.”
Amelia remembered the trust documents.
The partnership.
The protected heirs.
Victoria continued.
“Richard and Gabriel were both supposed to inherit parts of the family business.”
Nathan listened carefully.
“But Richard believed the company should change. He wanted transparency. He wanted to expose the people stealing from the trust.”
Daniel nodded.
“And Gabriel?”
Victoria’s expression became complicated.
“Gabriel believed power had to be protected at any cost.”
Silence.
Two brothers.
Two different beliefs.
One family empire.
And eventually, one of them disappeared.
Daniel spent the next several hours investigating Gabriel Grant.
The results shocked everyone.
“Gabriel officially died twenty years ago,” Daniel said.
Nathan looked surprised.
“Then why did you say he was alive?”
Daniel looked at Victoria.
“Because the records don’t match.”
Victoria remained silent.
The investigator placed several documents on the table.
“The death certificate appears to have been altered.”
Amelia looked closer.
“The signature?”
“Yes.”
Daniel pointed.
“The same type of forgery used in the financial documents.”
Nathan stared.
“So someone faked his death.”
“Yes.”
The room became colder.
Because if Gabriel was alive…
Then someone had spent decades pretending he wasn’t.
That evening, Amelia returned to her mother’s journal.
She searched through every page.
Every mention of Richard.
Every mention of Victoria.
Every clue.
Then she found something.
A name.
Written several times.
G. Grant.
Her heart stopped.
“Daniel.”
Everyone looked at her.
“I found something.”
She opened the journal.
“My mother knew about Gabriel.”
Nathan stepped closer.
“What did she write?”
Amelia read the entry.
"Richard was not the only person who tried to reveal the truth. Gabriel knew too much, but his choices were different. He wanted revenge, not justice."
Daniel looked concerned.
Amelia continued.
"The most dangerous person is not the one who wants money. It is the one who believes they deserve everything."
Nobody spoke.
Because everyone understood.
Gabriel wasn’t just another missing family member.
He was someone with a motive.
The next morning, the investigators discovered something unexpected.
A message had been delivered to the mansion.
No sender.
No address.
Only one sentence.
“You found my name. Now find out why I disappeared.”
Nathan held the paper.
“This is from Gabriel.”
Daniel nodded.
“Most likely.”
Amelia looked at the message.
“He wants us to find him.”
“Or he wants us to follow him,” Daniel warned.
Nathan looked at Amelia.
“What do we do?”
The question surprised her.
A few days ago, Nathan would have decided everything himself.
Now he was asking.
Amelia thought carefully.
“We find the truth.”
The location hidden in the message led them to an abandoned estate outside the city.
The property had once belonged to the Grant family.
But unlike the mansion, this place was forgotten.
The garden was overgrown.
The windows were covered.
The house looked abandoned for decades.
Daniel’s team searched the area.
Inside, they found old documents.
Photographs.
Personal items.
And a locked room.
Amelia noticed something strange.
The room was not damaged.
It was preserved.
Almost like someone had left yesterday.
On the desk was a single photograph.
Amelia picked it up.
Her breath stopped.
It showed four people.
Richard Grant.
Gabriel Grant.
Victoria Grant.
And…
Evelyn Escalante.
Her mother.
Nathan looked shocked.
“My mother knew your mother.”
Amelia nodded slowly.
“But why?”
Behind the photograph was a handwritten message.
"The truth was never about the money. It was about the child who was taken."
Everyone froze.
The child.
Nathan.
Daniel looked at him.
“What does that mean?”
Before anyone could answer, a voice came from the doorway.
“You finally figured it out.”
Everyone turned.
A man stood there.
Older.
Calm.
Confident.
His face carried a resemblance Nathan couldn’t ignore.
Same eyes.
Same expression.
Same family features.
Nathan stared.
“Who are you?”
The man stepped into the room.
“My name is Gabriel Grant.”
The room went silent.
Nathan looked at the man who was supposed to be dead.
His hidden uncle.
His father’s twin.
The man who had disappeared from history.
Gabriel looked at Nathan.
“I’ve waited thirty-three years for this moment.”
Nathan’s voice was quiet.
“Why?”
Gabriel looked around the room.
“Because you deserve to know the truth about why you were taken.”
Amelia stepped forward.
“Taken?”
Gabriel nodded.
“Yes.”
He looked directly at Nathan.
“You were never supposed to become Nathan Grant.”
A chill went through the room.
“Your name was changed.”
“Your records were changed.”
“Your family history was rewritten.”
Nathan’s face turned pale.
“Why?”
Gabriel’s expression hardened.
“Because someone wanted to control the inheritance.”
A pause.
“And because someone wanted to erase your real family.”
Nathan swallowed.
“Who?”
Gabriel looked toward Amelia.
Then toward the photograph of Evelyn.
“The same person who destroyed my brother.”
Everyone waited.
Then Gabriel spoke the name.
“Victoria Grant.”
The accusation hung in the air.
But before anyone could respond, Gabriel placed another file on the table.
Inside was a document signed thirty-three years earlier.
A document that proved Nathan’s entire identity had been stolen.
And at the bottom of the page…
May you like
Was Amelia’s mother’s signature.
To be continued…
