Chapter 10 - Justice Served

A week passed in a blur of domestic bliss.
Evan's lawyer called with incredible news on Friday afternoon.
"The district attorney reviewed the kitchen footage," the lawyer reported.
"They are pressing felony assault charges against Sabrina," he said.
"Her father's lawyers couldn't stop it," the lawyer added excitedly.
"They are also looking into her family's finances based on a tip," he mentioned.
Evan smiled to himself.
His bluff had actually triggered a real investigation.
"Thank you for everything," Evan told his lawyer.
He hung up the phone and found Leah on the balcony.
She was watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of orange and pink.
Her arm was still in a sling, but the pain was manageable now.
Evan wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"Sabrina is going to face trial," Evan told her softly.
Leah relaxed completely against him.
"It is finally over," she whispered in relief.
"Yes, the nightmare is over," Evan agreed.
"Now, we get to focus on our future," he said.
He turned Leah around to face him.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
Leah gasped as she saw the sparkling diamond ring inside.
"It took me four years to find you again," Evan said emotionally.

"I am never risking losing you a second time," he declared.
"Will you marry me, Leah?" he asked.
