Chapter 8: The Ledger of Sins

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could have heard a pin drop on the thick wool carpet.

Arthur slowly reached out, his fingers trembling slightly as he opened the folder. The top document was a high-resolution surveillance still captured three years ago outside a charity clinic in Queens—a shot of a black Mercedes registered to a Vance Global shell company, with a shadowy figure captured in the passenger-side window dumping a small, terrified child onto the sidewalk.

Beneath it lay the decrypted financial ledgers detailing the systematic drainage of the Sterling family trusts into offshore accounts controlled exclusively by Arthur Vance.

"What... what is this garbage?" Arthur choked out, trying to summon his executive authority, though his voice lacked its usual crisp resonance. "You're bringing forged documents into a board meeting? Have you lost your mind over some street urchin?"

"Look at the license plate, Arthur," Julian said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor. "Look at the routing numbers on page four. That’s your signature on the transfer authorization of the primary Sterling estate liquidation. You didn't just steal my birthright. You tried to murder my blood."

A murmur of shock rippled through the board members. Whispers erupted across the table as executives leaned in to inspect the documents.

"Mr. Chairman," whispered Robert Vance, a distant cousin and senior board member, looking up with wide, horrified eyes. "Is this... are these numbers real? Did you liquidate the primary trust funds?"

"It’s a fabrication!" Arthur roared, slamming his fist down on the table, his face turning a deep, angry crimson. "Julian is unstable! He threw away a multi-billion-dollar alliance with the Vance-Vance family over a beggar child, and now he’s spinning paranoid conspiracy theories to cover his incompetence! Security! Remove him from this room!"

Not a single security guard moved. They knew who signed their paychecks, and right now, the cold, unyielding authority in Julian’s eyes made it abundantly clear who held absolute power in the building.

Julian didn't blink. He reached into his breast pocket, slowly pulled out the tarnished silver hairpin bearing the royal dragon crest, and laid it gently in the center of the table, right on top of Arthur’s stolen ledgers.

"The girl you dumped in the alley three years ago survived, Arthur," Julian said softly, leaning closer so only his uncle could hear the venom in his words. "And she had this in her hand. The exact twin of the crest my father wore the day your men staged that 'plane crash.'"

Arthur staggered backward, his knees hitting his executive chair as he stared at the small silver pin as if it were a venomous snake ready to strike. The color drained entirely from his face, leaving him looking suddenly old, frail, and cornered.
