Chapter 6 - The First Woman Who Vanished

Chapter 6 - The First Woman Who Vanished
The name Emily Voss changed everything.
Detective Marcus Reed had spent twenty years investigating crimes.
He had learned that every case had a moment when the truth began to reveal itself.
A hidden document.

A forgotten witness.
A single name nobody wanted to mention.
For the Claire Bell case, that name was Emily Voss.
Reed returned to his office before sunrise.
The city was still quiet.
But his desk was already covered with old files.
He searched through archived reports.
Missing persons.
Unsolved disappearances.
Cold cases connected to wealthy families.
Then he found it.
Five years earlier.
Emily Voss.
Thirty-two years old.
Private assistant.
Last seen leaving the Harrow estate.
The case had been closed after six months.
No evidence.
No body.
No suspect.
Just another woman who disappeared without an answer.
Reed stared at the file.
Until now.
Inside the hospital, Claire struggled to remember the night she vanished.
Every time she closed her eyes, pieces returned.
A hallway.
A locked door.
Daniel’s voice.
And Emily.
“I knew her.”
Noah looked up from his chair.
“Who?”
Claire took a slow breath.
“Emily.”
Detective Reed, who had returned to the room, immediately paid attention.
“Tell me everything.”
Claire looked uncomfortable.
“She worked for Daniel.”
“How long?”
“Almost two years.”
“Did you trust her?”
Claire nodded.
“At first.”
“What changed?”
Claire looked toward the window.
“She warned me.”
“About Daniel?”
“Yes.”
The detective opened his notebook.
“What did she say?”
Claire’s hands tightened around the blanket.
“She told me Daniel wasn’t who everyone thought he was.”
Noah listened quietly.
“She said he had secrets.”
“What kind of secrets?”
Claire looked at Reed.
“She was afraid.”
The detective leaned forward.
“Afraid of what?”
Claire lowered her voice.
“Being next.”
A heavy silence filled the room.
At the Harrow mansion, Victoria discovered she was not alone.
She had spent the entire night searching through Daniel’s office.
She needed answers.
But instead, she found more questions.
The hidden documents.
The warning messages.
The photograph.
Everything pointed toward something much bigger.
Then she heard footsteps behind her.
Victoria turned quickly.
A woman stood in the doorway.
Older.
Wearing a dark coat.
Victoria recognized her immediately.
“Who are you?”
The woman looked nervous.
“My name is Laura Bennett.”
Victoria frowned.
“I don’t know you.”
“You do.”
“No.”
“You saw me five years ago.”
Victoria’s expression changed.
Because suddenly she remembered.
Emily Voss.
A missing employee.
A woman everyone stopped talking about.
“You knew Emily.”
Laura nodded.
“She was my sister.”
Victoria stepped backward.
“Why are you here?”
“To tell you the truth.”
Victoria looked around.
“You waited five years?”
Laura’s eyes filled with anger.
“I tried before.”
“What happened?”
“Daniel made sure nobody listened.”
Victoria felt a chill.
“What do you know?”
Laura reached into her bag.
She pulled out a small envelope.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
Victoria recognized the handwriting instantly.
Emily.
“She left this before she disappeared.”
Victoria opened it.
The message was short.
But terrifying.
IF CLAIRE EVER FINDS OUT THE TRUTH, DANIEL WILL TRY TO SILENCE HER.
Victoria looked up.
“How did you get this?”
“Emily gave it to me.”
“Before she disappeared?”
Laura nodded.
“She knew something was going to happen.”
Victoria’s hands trembled.
“What was she investigating?”
Laura looked toward the hallway.
Then whispered.
“Daniel wasn’t hiding one crime.”
“He was hiding years of them.”
Back at the hospital, Detective Reed received an urgent phone call.
His expression changed immediately.
“What happened?”
The officer on the other end spoke quickly.
Reed’s face became serious.
“Are you sure?”
A pause.
Then he looked at Claire.
“We found something.”
Claire sat up.
“What?”
Reed closed the phone.
“The old Harrow property records.”
“What about them?”
“The hidden room was not built five years ago.”
Everyone became silent.
“It was built twelve years ago.”
Claire felt her stomach drop.
“Twelve years?”
Reed nodded.
“And there is something else.”
“What?”
The detective looked at Noah.
“The room was originally registered under a different name.”
Claire’s face turned pale.
“Whose?”
Reed opened the file.
Then he said the name.
“Daniel Harrow’s first wife.”
Nobody moved.
Claire stared at him.
“First wife?”
Detective Reed nodded slowly.
“Daniel Harrow was married before you.”
The room became silent.
Because Claire suddenly realized something terrifying.
She had spent years living in a house full of secrets.
But the biggest secret was not hidden in the walls.
It was hidden in Daniel’s past.
