CHAPTER 2 — THE BILLIONAIRE’S FORGOTTEN DAUGHTER

CHAPTER 2 — THE BILLIONAIRE’S FORGOTTEN DAUGHTER

The anonymous message remained glowing on Elena’s phone.

"She was never missing."

"She was hidden."

For several seconds, Elena could not move.

The words felt heavier than the axe she had used moments earlier to break through the wall.

Around her, the most powerful people in New York pretended to remain calm.

But Elena saw the fear behind their expensive smiles.

She saw the nervous glances.

The silent questions.

Everyone wanted to know the same thing.

Who sent that message?

And what else did they know?

Lily held onto Elena’s hand as if letting go meant being trapped again.

Elena looked down at the little girl.

Her face was pale.

Her clothes were torn.

Her small body carried signs of a nightmare no child should ever experience.

Then Elena noticed something.

A silver necklace around Lily’s neck.

A tiny heart-shaped pendant.

Elena carefully touched it.

“Where did you get this?”

Lily looked at the necklace.

“My mother gave it to me.”

Elena froze.

“Your mother?”

The girl nodded slowly.

“She said if something happened to her, I had to keep it hidden.”

A wave of whispers moved through the crowd.

Victor Hawthorne stepped forward.

“That’s enough.”

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

The kind of calm that came from someone who was used to controlling every situation.

“Security will take the child to a private room.”

Elena turned toward him.

“No.”

The billionaire stopped.

The entire hallway became silent again.

Victor stared at her.

“You don’t understand what you’re involved in.”

Elena tightened her grip around Lily’s hand.

“I understand enough.”

“This girl was locked behind a wall in your mansion.”

“She was terrified of your family.”

“And you want to take her away before anyone asks questions.”

Victor’s jaw tightened.

“You are making dangerous assumptions.”

Elena stepped closer.

“Then prove me wrong.”

Nobody spoke.

The challenge hung in the air.

For the first time in years, someone had publicly questioned Victor Hawthorne.

And everyone in that room knew it.

Daniel finally moved toward Elena.

“Listen to me.”

His voice was softer.

Almost pleading.

“Come with me for a minute.”

Elena looked at him.

The man she loved.

The man she trusted.

The man who had been standing only a few feet away when Lily was discovered.

“Were you surprised when I found her?”

Daniel’s face changed.

Just slightly.

But Elena noticed.

That tiny hesitation told her everything.

“Elena…”

“Answer me.”

Daniel looked away.

“I didn’t know she was there.”

The words sounded rehearsed.

Elena studied his expression.

“You’re lying.”

Daniel’s eyes widened.

“Why would you say that?”

“Because you always look at the floor when you hide something.”

The room became even colder.

Daniel stepped back.

“Elena, this is not what you think.”

“Then tell me what it is.”

Before Daniel could answer, Lily suddenly grabbed Elena’s dress.

Her breathing became faster.

“He was there.”

Everyone turned.

Lily pointed toward Daniel.

“He came to the room.”

Daniel’s face drained of color.

“What?”

Elena looked at the little girl.

“What room?”

Lily’s eyes filled with tears.

“The room behind the wall.”

A shocked silence spread through the hallway.

Daniel immediately shook his head.

“No.”

“I have never been inside that room.”

Lily moved closer to Elena.

“He told me nobody would ever believe me.”

Daniel’s expression changed completely.

The confident businessman disappeared.

For one brief moment, Elena saw panic.

Real panic.

Then Isabella Hawthorne stepped forward.

“That child has been isolated for years.”

“She is confused.”

“She doesn’t know what she is saying.”

Elena looked at Isabella.

The billionaire’s wife was known for her flawless public image.

Perfect hair.

Perfect clothes.

Perfect manners.

But tonight, that mask was beginning to crack.

“You knew.”

Isabella’s eyes narrowed.

“Excuse me?”

“You knew she was alive.”

The accusation hit the room like an explosion.

Several guests gasped.

Victor immediately raised his voice.

“Enough.”

But Elena refused to stop.

“No.”

“Everyone here wants this buried again.”

“But I won’t let that happen.”

She looked at Lily.

Then back at the Hawthorne family.

“This child disappeared eight years ago.”

“Someone erased her from the world.”

“Someone kept her locked away.”

“And now I want to know why.”

A sudden sound interrupted them.

A camera shutter.

Then another.

The guests turned.

A journalist stood near the entrance.

He had secretly recorded everything.

The discovery.

The accusations.

Lily’s face.

Victor immediately shouted.

“Delete that footage.”

The journalist smiled nervously.

“Too late.”

He lifted his phone.

“It already uploaded.”

The billionaire’s expression changed.

Because for the first time that night, the truth was no longer trapped inside the walls.

It was free.

And millions of people were about to see it.

Elena looked at Lily.

The little girl whispered:

“Please help me find my mother.”

Elena lowered herself beside her.

“Where is your mother?”

Lily looked toward the broken portrait.

Then she whispered the one sentence that changed everything.

“She is still inside this house.”

Elena’s heart stopped.

Because everyone believed Lily’s mother had died eight years ago.

But Lily knew something they didn’t.

The woman who vanished with the truth…

Was never gone.

She was waiting.
