CHAPTER 15 — THE LAST TRUTH

CHAPTER 15 — THE LAST TRUTH
The old recording device continued playing.
Everyone in Claire’s bedroom stood frozen.
Nobody dared to breathe.

Nobody wanted to interrupt the voice from the past.
Because everyone knew this was the moment they had been chasing.
The answer.
The name.
The truth that had destroyed two families.
Elena stared at the device in Claire’s hand.
Her father’s voice filled the room again.
A voice she had not heard since childhood.
A voice she thought she would never hear again.
"If Elena is hearing this..."
A pause followed.
Then his voice became quieter.
"It means the person who betrayed us has finally found her."
Elena felt tears forming in her eyes.
She remembered almost nothing from that night.
Only flashes.
A broken window.
Her mother crying.
A strange voice.
And someone carrying her away from the danger.
But now those forgotten memories were returning.
Slowly.
Painfully.
Her father continued.
"We discovered the truth too late."
"The Final Project was never supposed to be controlled by one person."
"It was created to protect people from corruption."
"But someone changed its purpose."
Claire looked at Elena.
“She needs to hear all of it.”
Elena nodded.
Unable to speak.
The recording continued.
"The person who changed the project was someone we trusted completely."
Everyone looked around the room.
Victor.
Marcus.
Daniel.
Amelia.
Claire.
All of them had secrets.
All of them had reasons to hide.
Then the recording stopped.
The room became silent.
Elena looked confused.
“That’s it?”
Claire’s expression changed.
“No.”
She looked at the device.
“Your father created a second recording.”
“What?”
Claire turned the device over.
A hidden compartment opened.
Inside was a small memory card.
Elena stared.
“How did you get that?”
Claire looked at her.
“Your father gave it to me.”
Victor immediately stepped forward.
“You knew?”
Claire looked at him.
“Yes.”
The billionaire looked hurt.
“You lied to me.”
Claire’s expression hardened.
“You lied to everyone first.”
The tension between them was overwhelming.
Elena stepped between them.
“Enough.”
Everyone became quiet.
“I don’t care who betrayed who.”
“I need the truth.”
Claire looked at her.
“You’re ready?”
Elena thought about Lily.
About Amelia.
About her parents.
About eight years of pain.
“Yes.”
Claire inserted the memory card.
A new recording appeared.
This time, the image turned on.
The screen showed Elena’s childhood home.
The night everything changed.
Elena covered her mouth.
Because she saw herself.
A young girl.
Standing in the hallway.
Crying.
Her parents were arguing with someone.
But the camera angle did not show the person’s face.
Only the voice.
A familiar voice.
Then Elena heard something that made her entire body freeze.
The person said:
"You should have never involved Elena."
Her father answered:
"She is the only person who can expose you."
The person laughed.
A cold, calm laugh.
Then the voice spoke again.
"Then I guess I have no choice."
The video suddenly shook.
A loud crash.
A scream.
Then darkness.
Elena stared at the screen.
“That voice…”
Claire looked at her.
“You recognize it.”
Elena shook her head.
“No.”
But her face said something different.
Because deep inside, her memory was waking up.
A voice she heard after her parents died.
A voice that comforted her.
A voice that told her everything would be okay.
A voice that promised to protect her.
Then the screen showed the final image.
A reflection in the broken window.
A person standing outside.
The face was unclear.
But the clothing was visible.
A silver watch.
A black coat.
And a family ring.
Elena stepped closer.
Because she knew that ring.
Everyone in the Hawthorne family knew that ring.
It belonged to one person.
But before anyone could speak, Amelia whispered:
“No.”
Her voice was filled with shock.
“That’s impossible.”
Elena looked at her.
“Who?”
Amelia stared at the screen.
“The person behind everything…”
She swallowed.
“…was supposed to be dead.”
The room went silent.
Victor looked terrified.
Marcus stepped backward.
Daniel stared at the screen.
And Claire closed her eyes.
Because she already knew.
The truth was finally revealed.
But it was worse than anyone imagined.
The person who manipulated the Hawthorne family.
The person who destroyed Elena’s parents.
The person who controlled the Final Project.
Was not Victor.
Was not Richard.
Was not Daniel.
It was someone they had all mourned.
Someone they believed was gone forever.
The screen flickered one final time.
A name appeared.
THOMAS VALE
Elena stopped breathing.
Her father.
The man she thought had died as a victim.
The man who started the project.
The man whose death created the entire mystery.
Everyone looked at Elena.
She couldn’t move.
She couldn’t speak.
Because the final truth was impossible.
Her father was not just connected to the secret.
He was the center of it.
Then the mansion alarm suddenly activated.
A voice came through the security system.
A voice Elena recognized.
Her father’s voice.
Older.
Calm.
Alive.
"Elena."
Everyone froze.
"If you are hearing this, then you finally found the truth."
A pause.
Then:
"But you still don’t know the biggest secret."
Elena looked toward the speakers.
Her heart racing.
The voice continued.
"I did not disappear."
Silence.
Then the final words echoed through the mansion.
"I was waiting for you to remember."
The entire Hawthorne estate went dark.
And Elena finally understood.
The mystery was never about who betrayed her.
The mystery was about why her own father had built the entire secret around her.
Because the person she had been searching for all along…
Was the person who had been searching for her.
