At the diner, Leila slid a cheap USB drive across the table.
"I didn't have video," Leila explained, her hands shaking. "But my phone was in my apron pocket. I was recording an audio note for my sister when I walked into the hallway. It caught everything."

Claire plugged it into her laptop. Through the static, she heard it: the sickening thud of the punch, her own gasp, Margaret’s cold voice saying, “You were never part of this family,” and Evan asking, “Dad… what did you do?”
