Officer Vance interviewed Claire in her hospital bed, taking photos of the dark, ugly bruise spreading across her ribs. Meanwhile, a cruiser arrived at Bellwether Lodge.
Richard Vale greeted them with his signature cold arrogance. "A simple family misunderstanding," Richard told the officers smoothly. "Claire is hormonal. She tripped and hit the island."
Margaret corroborated the lie without blinking. Evan stood in the corner, staring at his shoes, unable to look the officers in the eye. When asked directly, Evan whispered, "I didn't see anything." Leila, terrified of losing her job and housing, stayed hidden in the pantry.
