Chapter 3 – A Billionaire's Fury

The news spread through the hospital long before anyone released an official statement.

Employees whispered in hallways.

Nurses exchanged stunned glances at the reception desk.

Doctors who had spent years treating wealthy families had never seen Dr. Nathan Carter so furious.

By sunrise, one fact had become impossible to ignore.

The assault on Khloe Thorne had not been an accident.

It had been intentional.

Marcus hadn't left Khloe's side all night.

The soft glow of dawn filtered through the windows of the private suite where she had been transferred after doctors confirmed that both she and the baby were stable.

Khloe finally opened her eyes.

Marcus was sitting beside her bed, still wearing the same black tuxedo from the charity gala. His tie had been loosened, and the exhaustion on his face revealed a sleepless night.

"You should go home," Khloe whispered.

He looked at her as though she had said something absurd.

"My home is wherever you are."

She managed the smallest smile.

"The board meeting..."

"Canceled."

"The investors?"

"They can wait."

Khloe squeezed his hand.

"You've never canceled a board meeting before."

Marcus smiled faintly.

"I've also never almost lost my wife and child."

Silence settled between them.

The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor filled the room.

For the first time since the attack, Khloe allowed herself to believe they might be safe.

Two floors below, Isabella Rossi sat inside an interview room at the hospital security office.

The elegant crimson gown she had worn to the gala was wrinkled.

Her flawless makeup had faded.

The confident woman who had walked into Khloe's suite the night before was gone.

Across the table sat Detectives Daniel Brooks and Olivia Ramirez.

Neither looked impressed by Isabella's expensive jewelry or famous last name.

Detective Brooks slid a tablet across the table.

"We're giving you one opportunity to explain your version of events."

Isabella folded her arms.

"I already have."

"Mrs. Thorne attacked me."

Detective Ramirez remained expressionless.

"Would you like to watch the security footage before repeating that statement?"

For the first time, uncertainty flickered across Isabella's face.

Brooks pressed play.

The room fell silent.

The video showed Isabella entering the suite.

Khloe calmly pointing toward the door.

The first shove.

The second shove.

Then—

The kick.

Every movement was crystal clear.

There were no blind spots.

No missing angles.

No room for interpretation.

When the recording ended, Isabella stared at the blank screen.

Her voice was barely audible.

"There has to be another camera."

"There isn't," Brooks replied.

"So this is everything."

Ramirez leaned forward.

"Would you like to change your statement?"

Isabella said nothing.

For the first time in years, words failed her.

Meanwhile, Marcus received an unexpected visitor.

His executive assistant, Ethan Cole, stepped quietly into the hospital room carrying a leather portfolio.

"I'm sorry to interrupt."

Marcus stood.

"What is it?"

Ethan lowered his voice.

"Our cybersecurity team finished reviewing Miss Rossi's communications."

Khloe looked up.

"What communications?"

Ethan opened the folder.

"We received a court order this morning."

Marcus frowned.

"A court order?"

"Dr. Carter requested an emergency preservation order."

"No electronic records can be deleted."

Ethan placed several printed pages on the table.

"These are text messages recovered from Isabella's phone backup."

Marcus began reading.

His expression darkened with every page.

Isabella:
"He's already tired of her."

Another message.

"Once the baby is gone, he'll finally leave her."

Marcus froze.

His heartbeat thundered in his ears.

Another message followed.

"She only exists because she's carrying his heir."

Then the final one.

"After tonight, everything changes."

Marcus slowly lowered the papers.

Khloe covered her mouth.

"No..."

She had endured weeks of cruel remarks.

Subtle insults.

Passive-aggressive smiles.

But she had never imagined Isabella wanted to harm her unborn child.

Marcus carefully placed the documents back into the folder.

His voice became frighteningly calm.

"Who else has seen these?"

Ethan answered quietly.

"Our legal department."

"And?"

"The police."

Marcus nodded once.

"No one outside this room speaks to the media."

"I understand."

"And Ethan..."

"Yes, sir?"

Marcus looked toward the window overlooking the city skyline.

"For years, I ignored Isabella's behavior because I thought she was simply jealous."

His jaw tightened.

"I was wrong."

He turned back.

"She planned this."

Ethan remained silent.

Marcus had built one of the largest investment firms in the country by staying calm under pressure.

He never acted out of anger.

He calculated.

He prepared.

Then he struck with precision.

Ethan recognized that expression.

Someone was about to lose everything.

Across town, television screens suddenly interrupted their morning programming.

BREAKING NEWS

Prominent Socialite Isabella Rossi Under Criminal Investigation Following Alleged Assault at St. Augustine Medical Center.

Outside the hospital, reporters gathered behind police barricades.

Camera crews multiplied by the minute.

Inside a holding room, Isabella watched the broadcast on a mounted television.

The anchor continued.

"Authorities have confirmed that surveillance footage is being reviewed as key evidence. Sources close to the investigation indicate that additional electronic evidence has also been secured."

Isabella's hands began to shake.

She reached for her phone.

No signal.

It had already been confiscated.

For the first time in her carefully curated life, there was no publicist to protect her.

No influential friend to silence the headlines.

No lie powerful enough to erase the truth.

And somewhere else in the hospital, Marcus Thorne was no longer thinking like a husband desperate to save his family.

He was thinking like the billionaire who had spent twenty years destroying anyone foolish enough to mistake his patience for weakness.
