Chapter 20: Long Live the Queen

One Year Later.
The grand ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel was unrecognizable. It had been transformed into an ethereal wonderland of white roses, crystal drapery, and soft, glowing candlelight. It was exactly the same room where a waitress had once spilled a drink and shattered a socialite's life.
Tonight, it was the venue for the "Wedding of the Century."
The city’s elite, now thoroughly vetted and absolutely loyal, sat in hushed, reverent silence. There was no whispering, no plotting, and no arrogant sneers. They knew exactly who held their lives, their wealth, and their futures in the palm of her hand.
The orchestral music swelled as the heavy oak doors opened.
Elena Rostova took the collective breath away from the room. She wore a custom-designed Vera Wang gown made of spun silk and intricate lace that seemed to glow in the ambient light. She didn't have a father to walk her down the aisle, nor did she need one. She walked with the absolute, unshakeable confidence of a monarch approaching her throne.
Waiting for her at the altar was Julian Vance.
He looked devastatingly handsome in a midnight-black tuxedo, but it was his eyes that captivated Elena. The ruthless, terrifying CEO who had conquered the business world was gone; in his place was a man looking at the love of his life with absolute, unconditional adoration.
As Elena reached the altar, Julian took her hands in his.
"You look..." Julian whispered, entirely at a loss for words. "You look like the Empress."
Elena smiled, a genuine, radiant smile that melted away the ice that usually guarded her heart. "And you look like a man who is ready to merge our assets."
Julian chuckled, a warm sound that resonated deeply within his chest. The officiant, a highly respected federal judge (who owed his career to Julian's quiet campaign funding), began the ceremony.
When it came time for the rings, Julian didn't reach for a traditional band. He took Elena’s left hand, slipping off the black velvet glove she had worn playfully for the ceremony. He slid a sleek, flawless band of platinum embedded with rare black diamonds next to the legendary pink 'Tear of Aurora'.
"With this ring," Julian vowed, his voice steady and echoing through the silent ballroom. "I pledge my empire, my life, and my loyalty to you. We rule this city together, or we burn it down together."
Elena felt a tear slip down her cheek, but it wasn't a tear of sadness. It was victory. Absolute, undeniable victory.
"With this ring," Elena replied, sliding a matching platinum band onto Julian’s finger. "I take you as my partner in all things. In war, in peace, and in everything in between."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the judge declared. "You may seal the partnership."
Julian pulled Elena into a deep, passionate kiss as the ballroom erupted into a deafening standing ovation. The applause was genuine, born of awe and profound respect. The Rostova-Vance syndicate was now legally and eternally bound.
Hours later, the reception was in full swing. Billionaires clinked champagne glasses, and the city’s elite danced under the massive chandeliers.
Elena stepped out onto the private balcony, the cool New York night breeze washing over her. The city lights glittered below, stretching out like a sea of diamonds that belonged entirely to her.
Julian stepped out behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
"You did it, Mrs. Vance," Julian murmured into her ear. "You own the world."
May you like
Elena leaned back into his chest, looking down at the pink diamond and the wedding band sparkling on her finger. From a waitress wiping up spilled wine, to the undisputed Queen of New York City.
"No, Julian," Elena whispered, turning her head to press a soft kiss against his jaw. "We own the world. And heaven help anyone who tries to take it from us."
