Chapter 9 - The Grocery Store Ambush

Three days later, I was casually pushing a shopping cart through the local upscale organic market.

I was peacefully picking out some fresh strawberries for Dustin’s after-school snack.

Suddenly, a heavy hand grabbed my shoulder and violently spun me around.

I dropped my plastic container of berries, scattering them all over the polished floor.

Ellie stood there, her face twisted into an ugly, furious sneer.

Beatrice was hovering aggressively right behind her daughter, holding a cheap designer knockoff purse.

"You ruined our entire lives, you selfish bitch!" Ellie screamed at the top of her lungs.

Several other shoppers instantly stopped in their tracks, staring in total shock.

"Mark just lost his expensive car!" Ellie continued to shriek hysterically.

"We had to move into a tiny, disgusting, cheap motel off the highway!"

"You need to give us our damn money back right this second!"

I calmly stepped back, creating a safe physical distance between us.

I quickly noticed at least three different bystanders pulling out their cell phones to record the drama.

"I don't owe you a single dime, Ellie," I stated clearly and loudly.

"You and your mother are completely miserable parasites."

Beatrice suddenly lunged forward, raising her heavy purse like a weapon.

"I'll teach you some respect, you little tramp!" the older woman roared.

Before she could even swing her ridiculous bag, a massive grocery store security guard intervened.

He grabbed Beatrice firmly by the elbow, yanking her aggressively backward.

"Ma'am, you need to calm down immediately or I am calling the police," the guard warned sternly.

"She stole our money!" Beatrice wailed theatrically, pointing a dramatic finger at me.

"She left us completely destitute and starving!"

I looked directly at the nearest bystander who was actively recording with his phone.

"I simply cut off my cheating, manipulative husband's access to my personal bank accounts," I announced clearly for the camera.

"These grown women have been living off my massive paycheck for three entire years."

"I suggest they finally go out and get real jobs like the rest of society."

The crowd of shocked onlookers actually erupted into a round of spontaneous applause.

Ellie’s face turned a horrifying shade of deep, embarrassed purple.

The security guard physically dragged both screaming women toward the automatic sliding exit doors.

I casually bent down, picked up my spilled strawberries, and threw them in a nearby trash can.

I grabbed a brand new box from the fresh display and peacefully finished my shopping.

The public humiliation was honestly just the icing on the absolute perfect cake.
