Chapter 10 - The Courtroom Checkmate

The official preliminary divorce hearing took place on a rainy Tuesday morning.

I walked proudly into the heavily paneled courtroom wearing a stunning, tailored scarlet suit.

Diane walked confidently right beside me, clutching a thick, heavy leather briefcase.

Mark sat at the opposing legal table, looking completely and utterly pathetic.

He was wearing a cheap, wrinkled suit that clearly hadn't been dry-cleaned in months.

His discount bargain-bin lawyer looked incredibly nervous and sweaty.

The stern-faced judge banged his heavy wooden gavel to officially call the room to order.

Mark’s lawyer immediately stood up, loudly clearing his throat.

"Your Honor, my client is the sole breadwinner of his family," the cheap lawyer lied terribly.

"He is kindly requesting temporary alimony and full exclusive access to the marital home."

"His wife has completely frozen his legitimate assets out of pure spite."

Diane didn't even bother standing up to object.

She just let out a sharp, deeply intimidating laugh that echoed in the quiet room.

"Your Honor, if I may easily present Exhibit A," Diane finally said smoothly.

She handed a massive stack of official, sealed bank documents directly to the bailiff.

"These verified financial records clearly prove that Mr. Mark Harrison has not contributed a single dollar to the marital estate in thirty-six months."

"Furthermore, the deed to the primary residence is solely in my client's name."

"A legal fact fully protected by a prenuptial agreement that Mr. Harrison signed under no duress."

Mark’s face drained of all natural color as the judge reviewed the damning paperwork.

"But wait, Your Honor, there's actually much more," Diane continued ruthlessly.

She pulled out a certified digital transcript of the hidden kitchen video.

She also presented the printed, time-stamped emails regarding the abusive military boarding school.

"My client's husband conspired to steal her personal assets and secretly ship her adopted child to an abusive facility."

"We are officially requesting immediate, permanent sole custody of the minor child."

"We are also formally requesting that Mr. Harrison be responsible for all accrued legal fees due to his malicious conduct."

The judge stared down at Mark with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.

"Mr. Harrison, you are an absolute disgrace to this court," the judge said coldly.

"All of the wife's requests are immediately and permanently granted."

"You get absolutely nothing."

Mark collapsed heavily into his wooden chair, burying his face in his shaking hands.

He had gambled his entire comfortable life on his mother's terrible advice.

He had ended up losing absolutely every single thing he had in the world.

I walked proudly out of the grand courthouse into the bright, beautiful sunshine.

My son was completely safe, my fortune was totally secure, and my future was finally mine.
