Chapter 13 — The Final Move

The image on the screen remained frozen.

Nathan Ashford standing inside Blackthorn Manor.

Victor Lang beside him.

And in Nathan’s hand…

A document that could change everything.

My name.

My signature.

My family’s legacy.

A lie created to look like the truth.

For a moment, nobody moved.

Then my father spoke.

“He’s trying to activate the trust transfer.”

I looked at him.

“Can he?”

My father’s expression was serious.

“Not legally.”

A pause.

“But if the document appears authentic, it can create chaos.”

Daniel nodded.

“He’s not trying to win immediately.”

“He’s trying to delay us.”

I understood.

Nathan knew he was losing.

The evidence against him was too strong.

The public had seen the truth.

His company was collapsing.

His allies were abandoning him.

So he needed one final move.

Confusion.

Doubt.

A battle over ownership.

If he could make the world question who controlled the Vale Legacy Trust, he could buy time.

And time was exactly what dangerous people needed.

My father looked at me.

“Eleanor, you don’t have to come.”

I already knew what he was going to say.

“You want me protected.”

“Yes.”

I shook my head.

“I’m done hiding.”

His expression softened.

“You’re my daughter.”

“And I’m also the person they targeted.”

I stepped closer.

“I need to finish this.”

For several seconds, my father said nothing.

Then he nodded.

“Okay.”

It was the first time he treated me like an equal in this battle.

Not a child.

Not someone fragile.

A partner.

When we arrived at Blackthorn Manor, the place looked completely different.

The same mansion where Nathan had humiliated me.

The same floors where I had been forced to kneel.

The same walls that had witnessed his cruelty.

But I was different.

I walked through those doors standing tall.

Nathan noticed immediately.

His expression changed.

Because he remembered the woman he left behind.

The woman he believed was broken.

But that woman was gone.

“You came.”

His voice was calm.

Too calm.

I looked at him.

“You wanted me here.”

A small smile appeared.

“I wanted you to see the truth.”

I almost laughed.

“The truth?”

“Yes.”

He lifted the document.

“You think your father saved you.”

He looked at Alexander.

“But he never told you everything.”

My father remained silent.

Nathan smiled.

“Ask him.”

I looked at my father.

But this time, I wasn’t afraid.

Because I knew something.

Nathan’s greatest weapon was making people doubt themselves.

I wouldn’t give him that power anymore.

“What exactly are you claiming?”

Nathan placed the document on the table.

“This proves that you transferred control of certain family assets to me after our marriage.”

I looked at the paper.

The signature looked real.

The date looked real.

Everything appeared perfect.

Except one thing.

I never signed it.

“You forged this.”

Nathan shook his head.

“No.”

Victor finally spoke.

“You authorized it.”

I looked at him.

The man who had been behind everything.

The person who had destroyed my family twenty years ago.

“You expect me to believe that?”

Victor smiled.

“You don’t have to believe me.”

He pointed toward the documents.

“The world only needs proof.”

My father stepped forward.

“This document is fraudulent.”

Victor looked amused.

“Then prove it.”

Silence.

Because that was the game.

They didn’t need the document to be real.

They only needed it to create enough uncertainty.

Nathan watched carefully.

He was waiting for panic.

Waiting for me to break.

But he forgot something.

I had spent months preparing for him.

And I had learned from the people who taught me patience.

“Daniel.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Yes?”

“Bring the original.”

Nathan’s smile disappeared slightly.

“What original?”

I looked at him.

“The document you copied.”

The room went quiet.

Victor’s expression changed.

Only slightly.

But enough.

Because he realized something.

They had not been the only ones planning.

Daniel placed a sealed envelope on the table.

Inside was the original legal record from the Vale Trust archives.

With the real signature requirements.

The real authorization process.

The real security measures.

And most importantly…

The one thing Nathan never knew existed.

My mother’s verification system.

My father looked at him.

“Every transfer involving the Vale Legacy Trust requires a biometric confirmation.”

Nathan’s face changed.

“What?”

I smiled slightly.

“You thought my signature was enough.”

I looked at the forged document.

“But my family stopped trusting signatures a long time ago.”

Victor stepped back.

For the first time, he looked uncertain.

Nathan stared at me.

“How did you know?”

I answered calmly.

“My mother.”

The name hit him.

Because Nathan had spent years studying my family.

But he never understood the most important thing.

The people he tried to defeat had been preparing for people like him long before he arrived.

Victor suddenly moved toward the exit.

But Daniel’s security team blocked the doors.

“You’re not leaving.”

Victor looked at my father.

“This isn’t over.”

My father looked at him calmly.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“It is.”

Nathan looked around.

The realization finally reached him.

The evidence.

The witnesses.

The forged documents.

The truth.

Everything had collapsed.

But before anyone could move…

Nathan laughed.

A quiet, broken laugh.

“You still don’t understand.”

I frowned.

“What?”

He looked directly at me.

“I wasn’t the only one who betrayed you.”

My heart tightened.

“What are you talking about?”

Nathan smiled.

Then he looked toward the entrance.

And someone walked into Blackthorn Manor.

Someone none of us expected.

Someone who knew every secret.

Someone who had been missing since the beginning.

Thomas Reed.

My father’s trusted employee.

The man who knew everything.

May you like

And the man who now held a gun in his hand.

To be continued…
