Chapter 12 — My Mother’s Final Message

For years, I believed my mother had left me with only memories.

A few photographs.

A few stories.

A few moments from a childhood that felt too distant.

I remembered her voice.

Her smile.

The way she used to brush my hair before bedtime.

But I never imagined she had left something behind.

Something meant only for me.

My father led me into a private room inside Vale International Headquarters.

A room I had never seen before.

No windows.

No cameras.

No access without special authorization.

Daniel entered a security code, and a hidden compartment opened inside the wall.

Inside was a small silver box.

My heart tightened.

“That belonged to your mother,” my father said.

I stared at it.

“How long have you had this?”

“Since the day she died.”

My eyes moved toward him.

“And you never gave it to me?”

His expression broke slightly.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because she left instructions.”

I froze.

“What instructions?”

My father looked at the box.

“She said you should only receive it when you were ready.”

A bitter laugh escaped me.

“Ready?”

I looked at him.

“Dad, I was twenty-nine years old when I got married.”

“I was ready.”

My father lowered his eyes.

“I know.”

The sadness in his voice softened my anger.

But only slightly.

Because there was still a lifetime of missing pieces.

Daniel placed the box on the table.

Inside was an old letter.

A small digital device.

And a necklace.

Not expensive.

Not covered in diamonds.

Just a simple silver chain.

I touched it carefully.

“This was hers.”

My father nodded.

“She wore it every day.”

I picked up the letter.

My name was written on the front.

To my Eleanor.

My hands started shaking.

I opened it.

The handwriting was unmistakably hers.

My precious daughter,

If you are reading this, it means the world has changed, and you are old enough to understand things I never wanted you to carry.

I stopped.

My vision blurred.

First, I want you to know something important.

You were never born into a life of power.

You were born into a life of responsibility.

I continued reading.

The Vale Legacy Trust was never created to make our family wealthy.

It was created to protect people who had no power against those who abused theirs.

My breathing slowed.

My mother had known.

She had understood everything.

There will always be people who want control.

They will smile.

They will pretend.

They will make promises.

But you must remember this: a person’s true character is revealed when they believe nobody is watching.

I looked at my father.

The same lesson.

The same words.

The lesson he had given me before my wedding.

My mother had taught him.

Then I reached the final part.

Eleanor, if someone has tried to hurt you because of who you are, do not become like them.

Do not let anger control you.

Let truth be your weapon.

I swallowed.

Because those words were exactly what I needed to hear.

Not revenge.

Not destruction.

Justice.

I picked up the digital device.

Daniel connected it to the system.

A video appeared.

My mother.

Older than the photographs I remembered.

But still beautiful.

Still warm.

My heart stopped.

“Hello, Eleanor.”

Her voice filled the room.

I covered my mouth.

Because hearing her voice after so many years felt impossible.

“If you are watching this, then something happened.”

She looked directly into the camera.

“And I’m sorry.”

A tear fell from my eye.

“I’m sorry that protecting you meant keeping you away from the truth.”

My mother took a breath.

“There are people who will try to convince you that power makes someone important.”

She shook her head.

“Power only reveals who someone already is.”

Then her expression became serious.

“If Victor Lang is involved, be careful.”

My father looked up.

My mother continued.

“He does not want money.”

“He wants control.”

A pause.

“And he will use anyone necessary to get it.”

Then she said something that made my blood run cold.

“Eleanor, if Nathan Ashford is part of this…”

The room froze.

My mother knew his name.

Before I ever met him.

“How?”

I whispered.

The video continued.

“Remember this.”

“People like Nathan are not chosen because they are powerful.”

“They are chosen because they are willing.”

The screen went black.

Nobody spoke.

My father looked devastated.

Because he finally understood.

My mother had known.

She had seen the danger coming.

And somehow…

Nathan had still entered my life.

Then Daniel received an alert.

His expression changed.

“What happened?” my father asked.

Daniel looked at me.

“The police just found Nathan Ashford.”

I stood.

“Where?”

Daniel hesitated.

“Blackthorn Manor.”

My heart stopped.

“He went back?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Daniel looked at the screen.

A new image appeared.

Nathan standing inside the mansion.

Waiting.

And beside him…

Victor Lang.

But there was something else.

Something that made my blood run cold.

Nathan was holding a document.

A document with my signature.

My father’s face turned pale.

“No.”

“What is it?”

He looked at me.

“The ownership transfer papers.”

I stared at the screen.

“But I never signed anything.”

My father’s expression became serious.

“Exactly.”

Because if Nathan had a document with my signature…

Someone had forged my identity.

May you like

And they were about to use it to take everything my family had protected for generations.

To be continued…
