The injunction filing was forty-three pages long.
Elena read every page.
Each accusation felt familiar because she had heard Marcus repeat versions of them for years.
She was unstable.
She became irrational under pressure.
She had attacked Celeste.
She had threatened staff.
She misremembered conversations.
She confused financial records.
There were statements from former employees.
Medical notes.
Security reports.
Photographs.
The case looked terrifyingly complete.
It was also carefully false.
Marcus stared at the pages.
“I never authorized half of this.”
Elena looked at him.
“You authorized enough.”
He could not argue.
One affidavit came from a former housekeeper who claimed Elena threw a vase during an argument.
Elena remembered the vase.
Marcus had thrown it.
Another came from a driver who said Elena attempted to jump from a moving car.
She remembered that too.
She had tried to leave after Marcus locked the doors during an argument.
The worst document came from the hospital after the staircase fall.
It described Elena as confused and emotionally agitated.
The original medical record said nothing about aggression.
Someone had added a supplemental note later.
Elias’s legal team moved immediately.
They requested audit logs.
The hospital produced them.
The supplemental note had been entered from an administrative account.
That account belonged to a consultant.
Celeste Monroe.
Sarah closed her eyes.
“She volunteered with the hospital foundation.”
Elena felt rage rise, but it was different now.
Not chaotic.
Not helpless.
Focused.
Marcus read the affidavit about the gala.
His face changed.
“Celeste wrote this.”
Elias looked at him.
“She needed your story.”
Marcus’s voice dropped.
“I told people Elena was difficult.”
“You told them more than that,” Elena said.
Marcus looked at her.
She continued.
“You made it possible for strangers to believe the worst version of me.”
He swallowed.
“I was angry.”
“You were useful.”
That hurt him more.
The emergency court hearing was scheduled for noon.
Nolan’s attorneys argued that Elena’s ownership rights should be suspended until a competency review.
Elias’s team argued the injunction was part of an active fraud scheme.
The judge wanted evidence that could be authenticated immediately.
The pendant recording from the penthouse became crucial.
It captured Marcus’s threats.
Celeste’s instructions.
The false story about Elena attacking Celeste.
And Marcus admitting the cameras had been disabled.
The audio was played in court.
Marcus sat behind his attorney, pale and motionless.
Elena watched through a secure video link from Vale Dominion’s office.
Then came the final section.
Her call.
“Dad.”
“Exactly as you instructed.”
“End him.”
Nolan’s lawyer smiled.
He argued the phrase showed Elena coordinating a retaliatory financial attack.
For the first time, the recording seemed to cut both ways.
The judge asked Elias what “end him” meant.
Elias answered carefully.
“Activate the legal preservation steps already approved by counsel and law enforcement.”
“Not destroy Mr. Ashford?”
“No.”
Nolan’s attorney stood.
“Convenient.”
Then he introduced a second recording.
Elena’s voice filled the courtroom.
This time, she sounded furious.
“I don’t care what it takes.”
“I want Marcus gone.”
“Burn Ashford to the ground.”
Elena stared at the screen.
She had never said those words.
Marcus looked toward her camera feed.
Even he seemed shocked.
The judge ordered the audio examined.
A forensic analyst returned twenty minutes later.
“It appears authentic.”
Elena’s stomach dropped.
