Chapter 13 — The Real Enemy Revealed

Chapter 13 — The Real Enemy Revealed

Richard Harrington did not sleep that night.

Not because he was afraid of losing his company.

Not because he was worried about prison.

Not even because Vanessa had disappeared.

Those things could be fixed.

Money could solve problems.

Lawyers could delay consequences.

Connections could open doors.

But what he heard on the phone…

That was different.

Because for the first time in his life, Richard realized he had never been in control.

He had always been controlled.

The next morning, Richard sat alone inside his empty penthouse.

The place that once represented success now felt like a prison.

The expensive furniture.

The city view.

The luxury he spent years chasing.

None of it mattered.

His phone buzzed.

A message appeared.

Meet me at the Harrington Tower. Alone.

No name.

No explanation.

But Richard knew.

Someone powerful was calling.

And powerful people did not ask twice.

Meanwhile, Harrison continued investigating.

The arrest of Charles Kensington had created chaos.

News outlets were reporting financial crimes.

Investors were abandoning Kensington companies.

Politicians who once stood beside him were suddenly claiming they had never known him.

Harrison knew better.

People like Charles Kensington never fell alone.

They took others down with them.

Daniel entered Harrison’s office.

“You need to see this.”

Harrison looked up.

“What?”

Daniel placed a file on the desk.

“We found another account.”

“Connected to Kensington?”

“No.”

Daniel hesitated.

“Connected to Harrington.”

Harrison opened the file.

Inside were financial transfers.

Private payments.

Encrypted transactions.

And one name appeared repeatedly.

Richard Harrington.

Harrison’s expression became cold.

“He wasn’t just involved.”

Daniel nodded.

“He knew more than he admitted.”

At the same time, Khloe was meeting with doctors.

The fall at the courthouse had nearly taken everything from her.

But somehow…

Her baby had survived.

The doctor smiled.

“Your daughter is strong.”

Khloe placed a hand over her stomach.

A daughter.

The dream Richard once promised her.

The dream she fought for through years of pain.

Now it belonged only to her.

Not Richard.

Not Vanessa.

Not anyone else.

Only her.

When Harrison arrived at the hospital, he found Khloe sitting quietly.

“How are you?”

She smiled.

“Better.”

He sat beside her.

“The baby?”

“Healthy.”

For the first time in weeks, Harrison allowed himself to breathe.

Then Khloe noticed his expression.

“What happened?”

He looked away.

“Richard knew.”

She became still.

“Knew what?”

“About the inheritance.”

Her face changed.

“No.”

“Yes.”

“When?”

“Before you married him.”

Khloe looked devastated.

All the betrayal she had already experienced suddenly became deeper.

Because it wasn’t just an affair.

It wasn’t just money.

Their entire marriage had been built on deception.

“I was a target.”

Khloe whispered.

Harrison looked at her.

“No.”

“That’s what I was.”

“No.”

His voice became firm.

“You were a person they underestimated.”

She looked at him.

“They never loved me.”

Harrison paused.

Then said:

“Some people can’t recognize value unless money is attached to it.”

A moment passed.

“But the people who truly loved you never needed a reason.”

That afternoon, Harrison confronted Richard.

Not in court.

Not through lawyers.

Personally.

Richard arrived at an abandoned conference room inside Harrington Tower.

He looked exhausted.

Different.

For the first time, he didn’t look like a powerful CEO.

He looked like a man who had lost everything.

“You know.”

Richard said.

Harrison remained silent.

“You know everything.”

“Yes.”

Richard sat down.

“I never wanted it to go this far.”

Harrison almost smiled.

“That’s what everyone says after they get caught.”

Richard looked at him.

“You think I’m the villain.”

“You betrayed my sister.”

Richard lowered his eyes.

“I know.”

The answer surprised Harrison.

No excuses.

No anger.

Just guilt.

“Tell me everything.”

Harrison said.

Richard looked up.

“You really want to know?”

“Yes.”

A long silence.

Then Richard began.

“When I met Khloe, I was already being watched.”

“By Kensington?”

Richard nodded.

“They knew about the trust.”

“They knew about her?”

“Yes.”

Richard swallowed.

“But I didn’t know the whole truth.”

“What did you know?”

“That marrying her would give me access.”

Harrison’s jaw tightened.

“Access to what?”

“Her inheritance.”

Richard looked ashamed.

“I was told I would become part of something bigger.”

“And you believed them.”

“I was young.”

“You were thirty.”

Richard looked down.

“I wanted power.”

The honesty was ugly.

But real.

Harrison asked:

“And Vanessa?”

Richard closed his eyes.

“She was supposed to make sure Khloe never discovered anything.”

“By having a child with you?”

Richard nodded.

“The plan was simple.”

“What plan?”

“After the divorce, Vanessa and I would control the Harrington side.”

“And Khloe?”

Richard was silent.

“Disposed of financially.”

Harrison’s expression became terrifyingly calm.

“You planned to destroy my sister.”

Richard whispered:

“Yes.”

Before Harrison could respond, Richard’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

The same number.

Richard looked afraid.

Harrison noticed.

“Answer.”

Richard hesitated.

Then picked up.

A voice spoke.

“Did you tell him?”

Richard froze.

Harrison immediately recognized something.

The voice.

Not Charles.

Not Victor.

Someone else.

Someone who had been watching everything.

Richard whispered:

“I had no choice.”

The voice laughed.

“You always had a choice.”

Then the caller said:

“Just like your father did.”

Richard’s face changed.

“My father?”

Harrison immediately leaned closer.

The caller continued:

“The Harrington family has been serving us for generations.”

Silence.

Harrison grabbed the phone.

“Who is this?”

The voice paused.

Then:

“Ask your sister who her biological father really was.”

The call ended.

Harrison and Richard stared at each other.

Because both understood.

The mystery was deeper than they imagined.

The Whitmores.

The Kensingtons.

The Harringtons.

They were all connected.

But one question remained.

Why had everyone been protecting Khloe?

And why was the truth about her father still hidden?

That night, Khloe woke suddenly.

She was dreaming again.

But this time, the memory was clearer.

She saw a man.

A man she had never remembered before.

He held her as a child.

He kissed her forehead.

And whispered:

“Someday, you will learn why I had to leave you.”

Khloe opened her eyes.

Her heart raced.

Because she finally remembered his face.

Her biological father.

Daniel Whitmore.

But something was wrong.

May you like

Because the man in her memory…

Was not dead.
