Chapter 20: The True Heir

The flashing red and blue lights of the FBI cruisers reflected off the dark water of the harbor. Agents swarmed the shipyard, securing Silas Vance and his mercenaries, shouting orders as they packed up the illicit servers.

I stood by my SUV, watching Silas being shoved into the back of a police cruiser. He didn't look back at me. He was finished.

"Miss Emily," Arthur said, stepping out of the shadows, a long, sleek sniper rifle slung casually over his shoulder. "The data packet was successfully received by the authorities. The Obsidian syndicate has been dismantled. Their assets are already being frozen globally."

"Thank you, Arthur," I said, leaning against the car door, the massive adrenaline rush finally beginning to fade, leaving a deep, bone-weary exhaustion in its place. "For everything."

"It is my honor, ma'am. Shall we go home?"

The ride back to the Harrington Estate was quiet. The sun was just beginning to rise, painting the city skyline in brilliant shades of gold and pink. A new day. A truly new beginning.

When we walked through the heavy mahogany doors of the mansion, the silence wasn't oppressive anymore. It was welcoming.

I walked into the grand foyer and stopped at the base of the staircase. Hanging on the wall was the massive, gilded frame that used to hold the portrait of Victoria, Madison, and Richard.

It had been replaced.

During the chaos of the last few days, I had asked Arthur to commission a new painting based on the old vintage photographs from the black box.

I stared up at the canvas. It was a beautiful, hyper-realistic portrait. Richard was sitting in his leather chair, smiling warmly. Standing behind him, with a bright, brilliant smile, was my mother, Clara Evans. And standing beside them, looking sharp, confident, and unstoppable, was me.

No fakes. No lies. Just blood, legacy, and truth.

Daniel Whitmore stepped into the foyer behind me, having been treated by the estate's private doctor. He looked up at the portrait and sighed happily.

"You've secured the company, Emily. You've avenged your mother. You've protected your father's legacy," Daniel said softly. "What happens now?"

I reached out and gently touched the gold frame of the painting. I thought about Victoria rotting in a federal cell. I thought about Madison serving her sentence in a minimum-security facility. I thought about Silas Vance, whose empire I had dismantled with a few lines of code.

They had all underestimated me because of my age. Because of my gender. Because they thought I was a broken little orphan they could push around.

They would never make that mistake again. No one would.

I turned around, facing Daniel and Arthur, the two men who had stood by me when the world tried to tear me down. I straightened my posture, a genuine, powerful smile spreading across my face.

"Now?" I asked, my voice ringing clearly through the halls of my home. "Now, we conquer the world."
