Chapter 15: A Dangerous Confession

Chapter 15: A Dangerous Confession
Ethan stared at the dark screen of his phone.
The anonymous caller's words echoed in his mind.
"You've found him."
Nothing more.
No threat.
No demand.
Just certainty.
Detective Keller looked at him across the conference room.

"Who was it?"
"I don't know."
"What did they say?"
Ethan repeated the message.
The room fell silent.
Agent Laura Bennett spoke first.
"That means we're being watched."
Keller nodded.
"And whoever called knows about Michael."
Emily instinctively placed a hand over her stomach.
"We have to find him before Victor does."
Across the city, Michael drove toward the abandoned address the anonymous caller had given him.
It was an old riverside warehouse that had been closed for years.
His instincts told him to leave.
Instead, he parked across the street and watched.
Five minutes later, another car arrived.
An elderly man stepped out carrying a leather briefcase.
Michael didn't recognize him.
The man looked around cautiously before entering the warehouse.
Michael waited another minute.
Then quietly followed.
Inside, sunlight filtered through broken windows.
Dust floated through the air.
The old man stood beside a wooden table.
"I wasn't sure you'd come," he said without turning around.
Michael frowned.
"You know who I am?"
The man smiled sadly.
"I've known who you are since the day you were taken."
Michael's heart pounded.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Thomas Reed."
"I was Charles Blackwood's personal attorney."
Michael took another cautious step.
"You called me?"
Thomas nodded.
"I promised Charles that if anything ever happened to him..."
"...I'd find you."
Meanwhile, Emily, Daniel, Ethan, Keller, and Agent Bennett began searching every property connected to Victor Sloan.
Most had been abandoned years earlier.
One warehouse stood out.
The deed was hidden beneath three shell companies.
Its address matched the location Michael had been given.
Ethan immediately recognized it.
"He's there."
Keller grabbed his jacket.
"Move!"
Back inside the warehouse, Thomas placed the leather briefcase on the table.
"I've kept these for twenty-six years."
He opened it.
Inside were dozens of sealed documents.
Old photographs.
Hospital records.
And a tiny silver bracelet engraved with one word.
Michael.
Michael stared at it.
"My adoptive father gave me one just like this."
Thomas nodded.
"They were made as a pair."
He removed a second bracelet.
This one read:
Daniel.
Michael slowly looked up.
"What does this mean?"
Thomas took a deep breath.
"It means..."
"...you've had a brother your entire life."
Michael's knees nearly gave out.
"No..."
"It's true."
Thomas handed him a photograph.
Two newborn babies.
One in a blue knit cap.
One in white.
Michael stared at the picture in disbelief.
"So..."
"I'm one of them?"
Thomas nodded.
"You're Baby B."
At that exact moment, the warehouse doors slammed shut.
Thomas turned sharply.
Several armed men emerged from the shadows.
Black tactical clothing.
Silver hawk rings.
Victor Sloan's men.
Their leader smiled coldly.
"Mr. Reed."
"You've always been loyal."
Thomas quietly stepped in front of Michael.
"I'm not letting you take him."
The man laughed.
"You don't have a choice."
Outside, Ethan's SUV screeched to a stop.
Federal agents poured from unmarked vehicles.
Keller looked toward the warehouse.
"No lights."
"No movement."
Agent Bennett whispered into her radio.
"Teams Alpha and Bravo, surround the building."
"No one goes in or out."
Inside, Thomas faced the armed men alone.
"You've hidden long enough," the leader said.
"Victor wants the boy."
Thomas smiled.
"He stopped being a boy twenty-six years ago."
The leader raised his pistol.
"And today he'll stop being a problem."
Before he could fire—
Michael grabbed a rusted steel pipe from the floor and swung it with all his strength.
The weapon struck the gunman's wrist.
The pistol clattered across the concrete.
Chaos erupted.
Thomas shoved Michael toward a side exit.
"Run!"
Gunfire exploded through the warehouse.
Wood splintered.
Glass shattered.
Michael sprinted through rows of abandoned machinery while bullets echoed behind him.
Outside, Keller heard the shots.
"Go! Go!"
Federal agents stormed the building.
Smoke grenades rolled across the floor.
"FBI!"
"Drop your weapons!"
The warehouse erupted into confusion.
One gunman surrendered immediately.
Another fired wildly before being tackled by agents.
Michael burst through a side door and collided with Ethan.
"Ethan!"
Michael froze.
"You know my name?"
Ethan nodded.
"I've been looking for you."
Before either man could say another word—
A black SUV smashed through the warehouse gates.
The driver ignored the agents.
The vehicle sped directly toward Michael.
"Watch out!" Emily screamed.
Ethan shoved Michael out of the way.
The SUV clipped Ethan's shoulder, throwing him onto the pavement.
The vehicle skidded sideways and stopped.
The driver's door opened.
A tall man stepped out.
Gray hair.
Sharp blue eyes.
A thin scar beneath his right eye.
Victor Sloan.
Everyone fell silent.
Victor slowly removed his sunglasses.
He looked directly at Michael.
For a brief moment...
His expression wasn't angry.
It was almost... disappointed.
"I warned Charles this day would come."
Michael stared back.
"Who are you?"
Victor answered without hesitation.
"I'm the man who raised you."
Michael's face drained of color.
"What?"
Victor nodded once.
"Your adoptive father died twelve years ago."
"But before that..."
"...he worked for me."
Emily gasped.
Daniel stood frozen.
Victor looked at Michael with unsettling calm.
"I gave you a home."
"I gave you an education."
"I made sure you wanted for nothing."
Michael's voice trembled.
"You stole me."
Victor didn't deny it.
"No."
"I saved you."
Agent Bennett raised her weapon.
"Victor Sloan!"
"You're under arrest!"
Victor smiled.
"I don't think so."
He reached into his coat.
Every agent tensed.
Instead of drawing a weapon...
Victor pulled out a sealed envelope.
He tossed it toward Michael.
"It belongs to you."
Then he looked directly at Ethan.
"You've spent weeks trying to understand Charles's final message."
He smiled faintly.
"You're asking the wrong question."
Before anyone could react, thick smoke erupted from beneath the SUV.
Hidden smoke canisters filled the area.
Visibility vanished.
Agents rushed forward.
"Don't let him escape!"
By the time the smoke cleared...
Victor Sloan was gone.
Only the envelope remained.
Michael slowly picked it up.

Across the front, written in Charles Blackwood's unmistakable handwriting, were five simple words:
For My Other Son.
