Chapter 5: The Conversation That Ends It

Chapter 5: The Conversation That Ends It
That evening, Elena called him.
Not through lawyers.
Not through intermediaries.
Directly.
Damian answered immediately.
There was a long silence before he spoke.
“You took everything.”
Elena’s voice was calm. Controlled. Almost distant.
“No,” she replied. “I took back what you were temporarily allowed to use.”
A bitter laugh escaped him.
“You think you’re above consequences?”
That made her pause.
For the first time, something like fatigue entered her tone.
“No,” she said quietly. “I think I built a system that never should have been left in the hands of people who confuse access with ownership.”
Damian leaned forward.
“So what now? You finish me completely?”
Another pause.
Then Elena said something unexpected.
“I already did.”
Silence stretched.
Outside his window, lights across the city flickered once.
Then several of his remaining accounts disappeared from his screen.
One by one.
Final.
Permanent.
Damian whispered, almost to himself,
“…why?”
Elena’s answer came softer than anything she had said before.
“Because you never asked who built the ground you stood on.”
The line went dead.

And for the first time in his life…
Damian had nothing left to rebuild from.
