Chapter 2: The Man Behind the Mask

Chapter 2: The Man Behind the Mask

Nathan’s confidence disappeared piece by piece.

I watched it happen.

The arrogance.

The superiority.

The belief that he controlled everything.

Gone.

For years, he had carefully built an image.

A brilliant businessman.

A loyal husband.

A respected leader.

But tonight, that image was collapsing in front of the only people who mattered.

My father’s security team connected the recording system to a large screen inside the mansion.

One by one, files appeared.

Financial documents.

Audio recordings.

Video evidence.

Every secret Nathan and Celeste believed was buried.

Celeste stepped backward.

“This is illegal.”

My father looked at her.

“No.”

His voice remained calm.

“What is illegal is stealing millions through false companies.”

Her face changed.

“You have no proof.”

I almost felt sorry for her.

Almost.

Because she still didn’t understand.

People like Celeste always believed money protected them.

They believed expensive lawyers could erase consequences.

They believed everyone had a price.

But they had made one mistake.

They underestimated patience.

The first recording played.

Celeste’s voice filled the room.

“Once Nathan divorces her, everything becomes easier.”

Nathan immediately turned toward her.

“What?”

She froze.

The second recording began.

Her voice again.

“She has no idea what she owns. She’s just lucky enough to be married to you.”

Nathan’s expression changed.

“You said that?”

Celeste panicked.

“That’s taken out of context.”

My father calmly nodded toward the screen.

“Continue.”

More recordings played.

Conversations about money.

Secret transfers.

Plans to remove me from my own company shares.

Promises of destroying my reputation.

Every lie.

Every betrayal.

Every cruel plan.

Nathan watched his world collapse.

“You recorded me?”

His voice was directed at me.

Not angry anymore.

Confused.

Almost betrayed.

I stared at him.

“You spent years destroying my life because you thought I was powerless.”

I stepped closer.

“The truth is, Nathan…”

I paused.

“You were only powerful because I allowed you to believe you were.”

His jaw tightened.

“You manipulated me.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You manipulated yourself.”

The room remained silent.

Then my father spoke.

“Nathan Ashford.”

Everyone turned.

“You are being removed from every company position you currently hold.”

Nathan laughed suddenly.

A desperate laugh.

“You can’t do that.”

My father looked at him.

“I already did.”

A phone rang.

One of the security members answered.

After a few seconds, he nodded.

“Confirmed. The board members have voted.”

He looked at Nathan.

“You have been removed as CEO effective immediately.”

Nathan’s face went completely blank.

The title he worshiped.

The identity he built.

Gone.

Just like that.

Celeste covered her mouth.

“No…”

My father turned toward me.

“Are you ready to leave?”

I looked around Blackthorn Manor.

The mansion.

The place where I had suffered.

The place where I had hidden my pain.

The place where I had waited.

“No,” I said.

I looked at Nathan.

“Not yet.”

Because losing his company wasn’t enough.

Nathan had taken years from my life.

He had broken my trust.

He had tried to erase me.

Now he needed to learn something.

Consequences were not about revenge.

May you like

They were about truth.

And the truth was only beginning.
