Chapter 10 - The Name Above The NamesVictor Hale drove away from the abandoned warehouse without turning on the radio.

The silence inside the vehicle was intentional.
He needed it.
For years, silence had been where he thought most clearly.
Before a mission.
Before a difficult decision.
Before walking into situations where one mistake could cost lives.
But tonight was different.
Because the enemy was not standing in front of him anymore.
The enemy was hidden.
And hidden enemies were always more dangerous.
Victor replayed the conversation inside the warehouse.
Robert Vale.
James Walker.
Richard Cole.
Nathan Mercer.
Different people.
Different backgrounds.
Different motivations.
But connected by one thing.
Someone had brought them together.
Someone had designed the operation.
Someone had created a chain of people willing to destroy a family.
Victor reached the military base just before sunrise.
He walked directly into his office.
No rest.
No hesitation.
The first thing he did was write a name at the top of a blank page.
UNKNOWN.
Then below it:
Motive.
Resources.
Connections.
Weakness.
Every investigation started the same way.
Remove emotion.
Find the pattern.
Victor opened the files again.
Nathan was the weapon.
Richard was the bridge.
James was the insider.
Robert was the strategist.
But who was the person giving direction?
That was the question.
His phone rang.
Daniel.
Victor answered.
“You were right.”
Daniel immediately knew something happened.
“About what?”
“There is someone above them.”
A pause.
“What did you find?”
Victor opened the recording.
“I found confirmation.”
Daniel listened.
The recording played.
Robert’s voice.
Clear.
Unmistakable.
When it ended, Daniel was silent.
“That is enough to destroy him.”
Victor shook his head.
“No.”
Daniel frowned.
“No?”
“Destroying Robert does not solve the problem.”
“Why?”
“Because Robert is replaceable.”
Victor looked at the list.
“Someone else would take his place.”
Daniel understood.
“You want the person controlling everything.”
“Yes.”
“That will be harder.”
Victor looked at the evidence.
“Good.”
Daniel almost laughed.
“You always say that when things get worse.”
“Because difficult problems reveal careless people.”
Daniel became serious.
“What is your next move?”
Victor looked toward the hospital building.
“I go back to the beginning.”
Claire woke up to the sound of rain against the window.
For several seconds, she did not remember where she was.
Then everything returned.
The house.
The people.
Nathan.
The video.
The pain.
Her breathing became faster.
A nurse immediately noticed.
“Claire?”
She looked around.
“Where is my dad?”
“He is coming.”
Claire closed her eyes.
The words helped.
Because after everything that happened, there was only one person who made her feel safe.
A few minutes later, the door opened.
Victor entered.
She immediately saw his expression.
“You found something.”
Victor sat beside her.
“Yes.”
“Something bad?”
He looked at her carefully.
“Yes.”
Claire looked away.
“Is it my fault?”
Victor’s expression changed.
“No.”
“Claire, look at me.”
She did.
“This was never because of you.”
“People who hurt others always find excuses.”
“They convince themselves they had a reason.”
“But the truth is simple.”
“They chose.”
Claire swallowed.
“Why did they choose me?”
Victor remained quiet.
Because he knew the answer would hurt.
Finally, he spoke.
“Because they thought hurting you would hurt me.”
Claire’s eyes filled with tears.
“So I was just a target?”
Victor shook his head.
“No.”
“You were the one thing they could not understand.”
“What?”
“That your strength was never because of me.”
“It was always yours.”
Claire looked down.
“I don’t feel strong.”
Victor gently held her hand.
“You survived.”
“Sometimes survival is the strongest thing a person can do.”
For the first time in days, Claire allowed herself to believe that.
Across town, Nathan Mercer was having a very different morning.
His world was collapsing.
The confidence he once carried was gone.
His lawyer had stopped answering quickly.
Business partners had started asking questions.
People who once praised him were suddenly distant.
Because reputation was fragile.
And Nathan’s entire life depended on people believing a lie.
His phone rang.
Richard.
Nathan answered immediately.
“What is happening?”
Richard sounded different.
Not calm.
Not confident.
Concerned.
“We have a problem.”
Nathan stood.
“What problem?”
“Victor knows about Robert.”
Nathan froze.
“How?”
“I do not know.”
Nathan walked toward the window.
“He found him?”
“Yes.”
“Then what do we do?”
Richard remained silent.
Nathan became angry.
“You said everything was planned.”
“It was.”
“You said Victor would react emotionally.”
“He did not.”
Nathan realized something.
Richard was afraid.
“You are scared of him.”
Richard did not answer.
That was enough.
Nathan lowered his voice.
“What are you not telling me?”
Richard finally spoke.
“There is someone else.”
Nathan frowned.
“Who?”
Richard looked at the files in front of him.
Someone above Robert.
Someone who had been protected for years.
Someone whose name could change everything.
“I do not know yet.”
Nathan became silent.
For the first time, he understood.
They were not controlling the situation.
They were trapped inside it.
That afternoon, Daniel sent Victor a new file.
The title was simple.
"Original Funding Source."
Victor opened it.
The first pages contained information about companies.
Accounts.
Transfers.
Organizations.
Then he reached the final page.
A single name.
Victor stopped.
Because this name was impossible.
Not because he did not know the person.
Because he did.
Very well.
His hand remained on the page.
His eyes moved slowly across the words.
The person behind everything was not a stranger.
Not an enemy.
Not someone from the outside.
It was someone who had been part of his life for decades.
Someone who knew his daughter.
Someone who knew his values.
Someone who knew exactly where to hurt him.
Victor whispered:
“No…”
His phone rang immediately.
Daniel.
Victor answered.
“Tell me this is wrong.”
Daniel was silent.
That silence confirmed everything.
“I wish it was.”
Victor looked at the name again.
The person who had funded the entire operation.
The person who connected everyone.
The person who had been hiding behind every decision.
Daniel finally spoke.
“Victor…”
“Yes?”
“You need to understand something.”
“What?”
“This person did not just want to hurt Claire.”
Victor waited.
“They wanted to destroy you.”
Victor looked out the window.
The rain continued falling.
Quiet.
Steady.
Cold.
Then he said:
“Send me everything.”
Daniel hesitated.
“Are you sure?”
Victor looked at the photograph of Claire on his desk.
The little girl who used to hold his hand.
The woman who had called him when she needed help.
The daughter who still believed he would protect her.
“Yes.”
“Because now I know who started this.”
He closed the file.
“And I am done chasing the people they sent.”
Victor stood.
“Now I am going after the person who gave the order.”
Far away, inside a private office high above the city, someone received a message.
A simple notification.
Victor Hale knows.
The person smiled.
Not worried.
Not afraid.
Because unlike Nathan, Richard, James, and Robert…
This person had never underestimated Victor.
May you like
They knew exactly how dangerous he was.
And that was why the final stage had already begun.
