Chapter 10 - A New Chapter Begins

Two weeks later, I stood on the front porch of our estate, watching Daniel’s black sedan idle in the driveway.
He stepped out of the car one last time to give me a tight, affectionate hug before heading to the airport for his trip to Zurich.
"Call me when you land," I reminded him, smoothing down the lapel of his jacket.
"I will, Mom, I promise," Daniel said, kissing my cheek.

"Take care of yourself while I'm gone."
"Always," I smiled.
He climbed back into the car, rolled down the window to wave one last time, and then the vehicle sped smoothly down the long driveway, disappearing past the wrought-iron gates.
I stood on the porch for a moment, letting the gentle afternoon breeze ruffle my silver hair.
The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in stunning shades of amber, violet, and gold.
Rosa stepped out onto the porch, holding a fresh cup of black tea and offering it to me with a warm, knowing smile.
"He's going to have a wonderful trip, Mrs. Whitmore," Rosa said softly.
"I know he is, Rosa," I replied, taking the warm mug from her hands.
"He needed this adventure."
We stood side by side for a few quiet moments, watching the sun sink lower into the distant hills.
Life had a strange way of testing us, throwing obstacles and deceitful people into our paths when we least expected it.
Vanessa had thought she could walk all over an elderly housekeeper, manipulate a trusting man, and steal a fortune without consequences.
She had learned the hard way that wisdom often hides beneath the simplest disguises.
I took a slow, calming sip of my tea, feeling the warmth spread through my chest.
The house behind us was quiet, peaceful, and entirely secure.
Our family was intact, wiser, and stronger than ever before.

The storm was nothing more than a distant memory now.
And as I looked out toward the horizon, I knew that whatever new chapters life decided to write for us next, we were more than ready to face them.
