Chapter 1: The Evidence Speaks
The room fell silent as the older man replayed the video on the phone.
Everyone gathered closer. The recording showed the young man slipping into the dressing room moments before the necklace disappeared. He carefully removed the diamond necklace from its velvet box, tucked it inside the lining of his suit jacket, and walked away as if nothing had happened.
The maid covered her mouth in disbelief.
"I told all of you," she whispered, tears filling her eyes. "I never touched it."
Several guests lowered their heads, ashamed of how quickly they had judged her.
Just then, police officers arrived after receiving a call from the estate's security office.
They collected the phone, secured the security camera recordings, and asked everyone to remain inside the ballroom while they reviewed the evidence.
