Chapter 5: Justice Never Arrives by Accident (Ending)

One year after the trial, Evelyn stood on the balcony overlooking the city skyline while Grace took her first steps across the polished floor.

The scars from that terrible day had never completely disappeared.

They had simply become reminders of how far she had come.

Richard had lost every appeal.

Vanessa remained behind bars, serving a lengthy sentence for attempted murder, conspiracy, and fraud.

Neither of them ever regained the life they had sacrificed for greed.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Detective Ruiz joined Evelyn on the balcony.

"You knew they'd eventually make a mistake," he said.

Evelyn nodded.

"I couldn't control what they chose to do."

She looked through the window at her laughing daughter.

"But I could make sure the truth would survive it."

Ruiz smiled.

"In the end, justice wasn't about revenge."

"No," Evelyn replied softly.

"It was about giving my daughter a future where she would never have to fear people who mistake kindness for weakness."

Grace reached for her mother's hand.

Evelyn lifted her into her arms and whispered,

"We're finally home."
