Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Title
The chairman’s office was nothing like the conference room.
Quiet. Clean. Controlled.
Lena stood near the door, still afraid to sit, still clutching the stained fabric of her shirt like she could hide behind it.
The chairman placed a file on the desk.
“I’ve been reviewing reports for three months,” he said.
Lena blinked. “Sir… I don’t understand.”
He opened the file.
Pages of complaints. Internal audits. Witness statements.
Her name appeared once.
Twice.
Then again.
Not as a problem—but as a witness.
“You reported misconduct,” he said. “And it kept getting buried.”
Lena’s throat tightened. “No one ever responded…”
“That’s because she blocked every attempt,” he replied.
Silence settled between them.
The chairman leaned back slightly.
“That executive wasn’t just aggressive,” he continued. “She was untouchable. Or she thought she was.”
Lena’s voice cracked. “So why… why fire her today?”
His eyes sharpened slightly.
“Because today she crossed a line in front of me.”
A pause.
Then, softer:
“And because I needed to see who would stay silent again.”
Lena felt her stomach drop.
He wasn’t just watching the executive.
May you like
He had been watching everyone.
Including her.
