CHAPTER 12 — The Battle for the Truth

CHAPTER 12 — The Battle for the Truth

The letter stayed on Elena’s desk all night.

She didn’t sleep.

She didn’t move.

She simply stared at the words her father had written decades ago.

Words she had hoped would never become relevant.

“If Victor ever comes back…”

Those words had always felt like a warning from the past.

Now they felt like a prophecy.

The next morning, Damian arrived at Elena’s office and immediately noticed something was different.

She was usually calm.

Controlled.

Impossible to read.

But today, there was something behind her eyes.

A memory.

A concern.

“You found something,” Damian said.

Elena looked at him.

“Yes.”

She placed the old letter on the desk.

Damian carefully picked it up.

“Your father wrote this?”

She nodded.

“He knew Victor might return.”

Damian read the message silently.

The more he read, the more serious his expression became.

“This is not about business.”

“No.”

Elena looked out the window.

“It never was.”

Richard entered the office with new information.

“We tracked more of Victor’s financial movements.”

He placed several reports on the table.

“He has been buying shares through dozens of companies.”

Damian looked at the numbers.

“How much control does he have?”

Richard hesitated.

“Enough to cause damage.”

Elena studied the documents.

“But not enough to win.”

Richard nodded.

“Correct.”

Damian looked between them.

“Then what is he trying to do?”

Nobody answered immediately.

Because they all knew.

Victor wasn’t rushing.

He wasn’t trying to take over overnight.

He was creating pressure.

Making Elena react.

Making her reveal information.

Making her expose the secrets she had protected.

Later that afternoon, Damian received an unexpected invitation.

A private meeting.

From Victor.

He showed the message to Elena.

“I’m going.”

Elena immediately shook her head.

“No.”

Damian looked surprised.

“Why?”

“Because Victor doesn’t invite people to talk.”

She paused.

“He invites people to manipulate them.”

Damian looked at the message again.

“He wants me there.”

“Exactly.”

“And that means he expects me to be afraid.”

Elena looked at him.

A small silence followed.

The old Damian would have gone because his pride demanded it.

The new Damian wanted to go because he needed information.

That difference mattered.

“I’m not going to fight him,” Damian said.

“I’m going to listen.”

Elena studied him.

Then she nodded.

“Be careful.”

The meeting took place at a private club downtown.

Victor arrived late.

Of course.

Damian noticed immediately.

A small detail.

A power move.

Victor wanted him waiting.

He wanted to remind Damian that he controlled the situation.

But Damian didn’t react.

When Victor finally entered, he smiled.

“Interesting.”

Damian looked at him.

“What?”

“You’re different.”

Victor sat across from him.

“A few months ago, you would have been angry.”

Damian said nothing.

Victor smiled.

“Elena changed you.”

“No.”

Damian answered calmly.

“I changed myself.”

For the first time, Victor looked slightly surprised.

“You know,” Victor said, “I always respected Elena.”

Damian remained silent.

“She was brilliant.”

A pause.

“But she made one mistake.”

“What mistake?”

“She believed morality was stronger than ambition.”

Victor leaned forward.

“The world doesn’t work that way.”

Damian looked at him.

“That’s what you believe?”

“That’s what experience teaches.”

Victor placed a folder on the table.

“I can give you your company back.”

Damian didn’t touch it.

“Why?”

“Because you understand business.”

A smile.

“And because Elena is holding you back.”

Damian almost laughed.

The irony was obvious.

The man who had spent years manipulating people was accusing Elena of control.

“What do you want?”

Victor leaned back.

“The truth.”

Damian’s expression changed.

“What truth?”

“The truth about Elena Voss.”

That night, Damian returned to Elena’s office.

She was waiting.

“You met him.”

“Yes.”

“What did he say?”

Damian placed Victor’s folder on the table.

“He wants information.”

Elena opened it.

Inside were copies of old documents.

Her expression immediately changed.

“Where did he get these?”

Damian looked at her.

“What are they?”

Elena didn’t answer.

Because she recognized them.

They were documents from the earliest days of Voss Global Holdings.

Documents she thought had been destroyed.

“He’s trying to force me to reveal the foundation records.”

Damian looked confused.

“Why are those documents so important?”

Elena finally looked at him.

“Because they prove something.”

“What?”

“That Voss Global Holdings was never created the way the world believes.”

A long silence followed.

Damian waited.

Elena continued.

“My father didn’t build the company alone.”

“Then who did?”

Her voice became quieter.

“Someone whose name was erased.”

The next morning, a shocking headline appeared across every business network.

“Unknown Founder Connected to Voss Global Holdings Discovered.”

“Elena Voss Facing Questions About Company Origins.”

The media exploded.

Investors demanded answers.

Competitors smelled opportunity.

And Victor Harrington watched from his office with a satisfied smile.

Because this was exactly what he wanted.

Not Elena’s money.

Not her shares.

Not her company.

He wanted the one thing she had protected her entire life.

Her family’s hidden history.

Inside Voss Global Holdings, employees waited nervously.

For the first time in decades, Elena Voss faced public uncertainty.

Richard looked at her.

“What do we do?”

Elena looked at the city outside.

The same city she had built her empire in.

The same city that now questioned her.

Then she answered:

“We tell the truth.”

Damian looked at her.

“Even if it hurts you?”

Elena nodded.

“Yes.”

A pause.

“Because the only thing stronger than a secret…”

She looked at the documents.

“Is the truth behind it.”

And somewhere across the city, Victor Harrington smiled.

Because he believed the truth would destroy Elena Voss.

But he didn’t understand one thing.

Elena had spent her entire life preparing for this moment.

And when the truth finally came out…

Everyone would discover who the real architect behind the empire was.
