The CEO standing beside her closed the file and handed it back to the director.

Damian’s jaw tightened.
“No question?” he repeated.
His voice was lower now.
“You expect me to believe she owns everything?”
Elena looked at him calmly.
“I don’t expect you to believe anything, Damian.”
She paused.
“The truth doesn’t require your approval.”
The words hit harder than any insult.
Damian looked around the room, searching for someone—anyone—who would support him.
But the executives who once surrounded him stayed silent.
Because they knew.

Years ago, when Damian was struggling to keep his first company alive, it was Elena’s private investment group that saved him.

Veronica slowly stepped closer to Damian.
“This can’t be real,” she whispered.

Elena turned her eyes toward her.
“No,” Elena said.
“She was someone you never bothered to understand.”

For the first time, she realized the woman she had mocked at charity events and private dinners had been watching everything.

Damian clenched his fists.
“You’re doing this because of what happened today?”
Elena looked at him.
“No.”
Her answer came instantly.
“That would make this personal.”
She walked toward the window overlooking the city.
Thousands of lights filled the skyline below.
“This isn’t revenge.”
She turned back.
“This is accountability.”
The director stepped forward.
“Mrs. Voss, the board is requesting your presence. They are ready to begin the emergency transition.”
Damian’s expression changed.
“Mrs. Voss?”
The title seemed to destroy the last piece of his confidence.
He had spent years introducing himself as the most powerful person in every room.
Now he realized he had never been.
Elena picked up her handbag.
The same handbag everyone had laughed at earlier.
The same woman they underestimated.
She walked past Damian without looking at him.
But before leaving, she stopped.
“You always wondered why I stayed quiet.”
Damian slowly turned.
Elena looked at him with a calm expression.

Then she walked out.
