The dining room fell into a silence so complete that even the grandfather clock in the hallway seemed louder.
Jason shot to his feet.
"Turn that off!"
But no one moved.
The baby monitor continued to play.
His own voice echoed through every corner of the mansion.
"The baby is mine. But if Mom keeps blaming Olivia, I'll move the money before she finds out about Vanessa. Once the trust is transferred, I'll file for divorce anyway."
Margaret Bennett's confident smile disappeared.
"What money?" she whispered.
Jason lunged toward the monitor, yanking the batteries from the receiver.
Too late.
Everyone had heard.
His father, Richard Bennett, slowly stood from the head of the table.
"What trust?"
Jason swallowed hard.
"Dad... I can explain."
"You'd better."
Olivia didn't say a word.
She simply looked at her husband—the man who had let his own mother accuse her of infidelity to hide his financial crimes.
Richard's eyes narrowed.
"Olivia."
"Yes?"
"Did you know about this?"
She calmly reached into her purse.
"I suspected."
She laid several envelopes onto the dining table.
Bank statements.
Property transfer documents.
Insurance policies.
Every signature belonged to Jason.
Every transfer had been made over the last eight months.
The exact eight months of her pregnancy.
Richard flipped through the papers.
Each page made his face darker.
"Twenty-two million dollars..."
Margaret gasped.
Jason looked trapped.
"Dad, it wasn't stealing."
Richard slammed his fist onto the table.
"You moved family assets into shell companies."
"I was protecting them."
"From who?"
Jason couldn't answer.
Olivia finally spoke.
"From me."
Everyone looked at her.
"He planned to accuse me of cheating."
She placed one final document onto the table.
"A private investigator's report."
The photographs showed Jason entering the same luxury apartment every Thursday night.
The woman opening the door.
Vanessa Cole.
Seven months pregnant.
Margaret covered her mouth.
"No..."
Jason whispered,
"It's not what it looks like."
Olivia gave a tired smile.
"Then tell everyone why your mistress is carrying a child due one week before mine."
No one defended him.
